Duane and Derek

really, for anyone but Duane Allman to top this list would be as ludicrous as having a list of early jazz trumpet solos not topped by Louis Armstrong

david lindley should be mentioned (if he hasnt been, already)

and the guy from john hiatt's early 90s band. david tronzo i think.

sonny landreth
joe walsh

and i always liked the canadian slide guy, david wilcox

of course, David Wilcox! Love him.
Keeping it Canadian, there's a local guy in Toronto named Brian Cober. Unbelievable!

Good old George Harrison comes to mind-- he played some pretty tasty slide....

Duane Allman was another one

Duane Allman was THE slide player. George Harrison and Mick Taylor couldn't TOUCH his playing in their wildest dreams.

Jerry Garcia - another American slide player no Englishman could touch.
Ouch. That's just wrong.

Another good Canadian slide guitarist, though his name escapes me, if the lead guitarist for the Tragically Hip.

But my fav, as it is with many on this site, is Duane Allman, followed by the amazing Lowell George and his former bandmate (who I hear is in very poor health) Paul Barrere.

Robbie Krieger is hugely underrated and is often overlooked whenever any aspect of guitar playing is discussed.

Indeed! Robbie play some good slide on Doors records...thumbs up

the Hip guy is Rob Baker; he played some slide back in the 90s fairly often on a regular electric, later on he began playing on a fender steel guitar laid flat on a stand with weird tunings, i think he uses a lapsteel now sometimes too

another canadian guy i likeis the guy from Blue Rodeo, Bob Egan, formerly of Wilco, who plays a mean slide sometimes

Listen to Warren Haynes on this...and in fact while you're there, have a listen to Dickey's solo straight afterwards...awesome!

A pedal steel has as much to do with a guitar as a violin with a harp.

This is how a fantastic slideplayer should sound! Ron Wood listen and learn.

Bucky Baxter, who toured with Bob Dylan in the '90's isn't half bad either...

Just as long as the guitar plays, let it steal your heart away

Beautiful - Southern rock at it's finest and bring Dicky back to the Brothers. I see Greg was not singing back-up, I think he use to?

Derek Trucks is amazing: I saw the DTB at the Islington Apollo, touring Songlines. Trucks played raga riffs, then an amazing slide version of Greensleeves medleyed to My Favourite Things.

Dickey Betts' slide was great on the version of In Memory of Elizabeth Reed from Wipe The Windows; I prefer that version to the Live @ The Fillmore, but then that's a matter of personal taste.

Ronnie Wood is an excellent slide guitarist, and so too Mick Taylor. Mick shades it due to his efforts on Brussels Affair. However, I heard Ronnie take Miss You into bluesville at Wembley Stadium in 1990, with an amazing slide solo. It's just a pity Flashpoint never reflected this.
