Phil Good
Johnny Depp.
Seriously, he is a very good guitarist and
plays really great slide tunes.
Just ask Keith, Macca, Noel Gallagher etc. ...

I used to work with Jimmy's wife Sally many years ago in DC. I wasn't familiar with The Nighthawks then, I remember Sally talking about her husband the musician. The Nighthawks were very big in the DC area, I haven't followed what Jimmy's been up to since then and I lost touch with Sally when I left the company where we both worked.

If you listen to Rod Stewart and the Faces' albums of the 70's, you'll see how great Ronnie really is. Listen t o " Every Picture Tells A Story", and " Gasoline Alley"...he is awesome. I always loved his slide on " Cut Across Shortie". You just can't under estimate Ron.

they would synch-up around midnight and both bands would play elmo's madison blues (slide guitars a-blazin', mind you)....george and jimmy would meet up in the middle of the street and switch guitar cables and then head into the opposite club, never missing a beat along the way. awesome stuff. i have a new year's eve broadcast from one of these...
when the nighthawks played a show in eugene at the wow hall in the early 80's, jimmy (playing a wireless, obviously) wandered out one exit during madison blues....never missed a beat/note....and a few minutes later came back in the opposite entrance, having just completed a trip around the block. the wow hall was indeed wowed.
jimmy's a master slide guy....during a show, he'll often grab a patron's beer bottle and play side with that for a tune...

Cool story T&A, I wish I'd gone to see them more often back then, but then there are a lot of bands I wish I'd seen more of when I was young and unencumbered. Only problem was I was also broke most of the time.

Duane Allman was THE slide player. George Harrison and Mick Taylor couldn't TOUCH his playing in their wildest dreams.
Jerry Garcia - another American slide player no Englishman could touch.
Sounds like open G tuning like Keith but prob with all six strings...Quote

As we know, Mick Taylor used to be one of the best slideguitar players in the 70's.
He played in standard tuning which is rare and made his sound unique. Who else do you like playing slideguitar?
I'm pretty certain he's not in standard tuning for this one (which I think is the first song Taylor played onstage with the Stones. Sounds like he's tuned to a chord to me, but I may be wrong.

Agree with Duane. What songs did Jerry play slide on. I know he was good on Pedel Steel guitar (although he did not think so himself). Bob Weir played the slide guitar pretty good!
