What are some new and exciting bands from the last couple of years? I got an iTunes giftcard and I'm itching to use it.

Son Volt - not really new but always worth a listen

Teseschi-Trucks Band- great new record - Revelator- Derek Trucks slide guitar playing is about the best thing to happen to guitar in a long while

The John Butler Trio - Good stuff

Some not so new bands listed. Then again, compared to The Stones, Zeppelin is a new band.

I do try to discover new bands, and I will give a youtube listen to new bands when they come through town (when the local guys plug the show) but quite often it seems like most are either 1)rap crap(yelling at you) OR 2) the new fangled wall of sound, electronica noise, rave type of music... e.g. Muse or Sound Tribe Sector 9....

It is a very different sound than my prefered drum/bass combined with a lead guitar and lead singer... it is as if the kids are doing their best to sound WAAAAAAAAAAY different than regular "old people" rock and roll... and they wind up sounding waaaaaayy like shit, e.g.
