The Alabama Shakes: their 2012 debut was ok, Hold On was probably the best single from last year.

I feel there hasn't been an exciting rock and roll band since Oasis. There are some bands with an ok single but that's it.

When it comes to new artists, the only excitement is in r&b and hip hop. Last years (debut) albums by Frank Ocean and Kendrick Lamar are brilliant.

Although I'm also a Mastodon fan, but that's metal not really rock and roll.

Actually there's been a boatload, the latest being Ty Segall.
Hip Hop's been stuck in the mud for years now despite some good releases.

If this ain't rock'n'roll I don't know what is.

The Killers... hate the name, like the band...
Not really new, but kind of... and pretty good and rocking...
unless someone hates them (which someone on IORR will), then nevermind.... they remind me a bit of Queen.

Mitt Romney likes the Killers. No joke. But probably because Brandon Flowers (the lead singer) is Mormon.

Buy Romney a drink when you see him smoking a spliff in the back of Max's Kansas City.

John Lennon (in 1971) on Max's Kansas City: “There’s a place in New York in the Village called Max’s Kansas City and everyone who’s everyone always eats there; all the artists and everyone who’s everyone. Now Max’s Kansas City have decided to change the decor after 20 years. All these artists and radicals and revolutionaries are getting very upset cause he’s going to change the décor. That’s how the world is! The underground is just as straight as the overground. And they don’t like change. And that’s all there is to it.”

Well, here's irony for you: Al Gore was a major shareholder in the Current TV network. Current TV was recently sold to Al Jazeera, which now makes Al Gore richer than Mitt Romney. (I'm not kidding, folks.)

From the Huffington Post: "The former Vice President sold his Current TV network to Al Jazeera for a reported $500 million last week, a move that will make him worth at least $300 million, according to an estimation by Forbes. That’s more than Republican Presidential candidate Mitt Romney, who is worth about $250 million, according to a September estimate from Bloomberg."

(Gore was worth under $2 million when he left office.)

To me bands have gotten worse and worse every decade since the Sixties. The bands of today make the Ninetees look like a cornucopia of good music. They all sound the same to me.

The brain processes music differently when you are old than when you are young.

Right now my favorites are

(just saw the debut gig and was totally blown away)

Violent Vickie

Blood Red Shoes

and especially

ICONA POP

Rock music is so played out but I really dug Devil's Daughters a few weeks ago.

Willy Mason. Not new but his latest album "Carry On" (I just got it) from last year is a good acquisition
