Allah-Las album ... doesn't get over excited but its a good listen ...

Got that one for Christmas Rockee. Nice 65/66 US garage beat. Also like the Tame Impalas from down your way. Pretty damn psychedelic.

Too many so here's one.

Nice! Breaking out the Ty Segall, one of the few new acts worthy of the adjective "exciting".

I'm looking forward to his upcoming gig at the Phoenix in Toronto.
I've currently got this on high rotation

And for great old style R&B done with
youthful enthusiasm

I admit it's been a real long time since I was up on what's happening. I heard some tracks by the Reigning Sound and have a great LP by Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, but think they've both been around for like ten years or so!

I've been playing catch up with the Fleet Foxes. Very interesting at the least and certainly not trying to be "current" which is the kiss of death for me. But also very much of their own while absorbing the influences -- PeT Sounds/Smile, Zombies, and lots I don't recognize. Well worth checking out.

Boo, still haven't had a chance to properly listen to all the suggestions above.

In the meantime, just to add to the list myself, some bands I already know:

Can The Black Keys really be considered "new"? They've been around for 12 years--been listening to them since college. They reached mainstream popularity in the last a year or two but they have been around for a while.

An early response encapsulates how I don't know the manner in which to respond to these sort of queries: Son Volt has been around over 18 years.

What constitutes "new"?

Edited to add: scrolling down the list of recommendations I see a lot of acts I would never consider "new" in 2013 (Ryan Adams? Jack White?).

I'm sure they're "new" to somebody but so might be Sun Ra.

For me it meant bands that were formed in the last couple of years, young kids, etc.

But on a Stones forum, 'new' for most probably means, anything that was released after say, 'Some Girls' smoking smiley

Son Volt - not really new but always worth a listen

Teseschi-Trucks Band- great new record - Revelator- Derek Trucks slide guitar playing is about the best thing to happen to guitar in a long while

The John Butler Trio - Good stuff

peace

John Butler Trio - They've been around for awhile too. Good to hear that their popularity is growing outside their local fan base.

Listening now to some clips from their album Before the fire. Pretty cool, and actually reminds me a lot of Aerosmith.

And plus...by this point...does anyone on this board NOT know who Ryan Adams or Jack White or The Black Keys are? They're constantly coming out with new music but they all have been around for more than a decade. Has anyone honestly recently JUST discovered Jack White?

There are innumerable 'classic rock' touchstones on the Rival Sons new album, 'Head Down.' I found out about them reading Ultimate Classic Rock magazine. The mag voted their new album as the second best classic rock album of the year, behind first place Rush and ahead of ZZ Top. I said, "Who the hell are these guys?" So I got it and I love it.

Drive By Truckers. Got something for everybody. They're a little country, a lot of rock, some soul....

Check out from them:
Three Dimes Down
Gravity's Gone
Marry Me
Outfit
Daddy Learned To Fly
Mercy Buckets
Nine Bullets
Used To Be A Cop

...and tons more really, but those are my favorites.

Death Cab for Cutie isn't new nor is the Postal Service, but the lead singer of both bands—Ben Gibbard—released his first solo album in 2012 that has a Beatley song I like titled "Teardrop Windows."

"Teardrop Windows" — Ben Gibbard

The Killers... hate the name, like the band...
Not really new, but kind of... and pretty good and rocking...
unless someone hates them (which someone on IORR will), then nevermind.... they remind me a bit of Queen.
