"unknown" version of "Mercy, mercy"
Posted by: dingq ()

This is the first version of "Mercy, mercy", recorded half a year before the official version. I call it the sweet version. Like it. Has a short guitar solo in it. Slightly different lyrics too. From the bootleg "2120 South Michigan Avenue" from [vivalesbootlegs.blogspot.com]

I'm trying to check the video's info, but I've just got another Youtube copyright warning ("2000 lightyears from home"), the third one, which means I'm gonna loose my channel if ABCO claims another video... boy oh boy.
I will defenitely upload as much ABCO records as possible, that's will be my first reaction...

o.k. the stupid teaching video about copyright is over, the questions have been answered. they treat you like a baby with that copyright video. @#$%&!!!

the info on the song says that Mick has done lead and backing vocals, so yes, it must be him.

Looks like Mick sing "Baby" and in the backup he sings "Darling" (at 2.25)

God, how many voices are in there? I easily make out 4.
Did you see Keith "singing" during the guitar break? Did they splice the same footage of him from the very beginning in there?

I never knew this "first version" - I´m really impressed!

But look at 1.50: Mick starts reading the teleprompter. Las Vegas began in 1965!

Looks like someone has put the first version to the second versions video.

Way cool! But where is the footage from, please and thank you?
(What program, I mean, as opposed to "what bootleg".)

Huh!

The video is the same in both clips.

The audio is not the same in both clips.

No new video footage at all.

Someone has dubbed the (first version) softer Mercy audio onto the harder Mercy's video.

Keith and Brian are totally out of sync in some places in the softer first version because of the mismatched audio/video.

If you'd read the thread you'll find that dingq created the video using the footage and sync-ing it the best he could with the audio.

Well I missed that bit.

But some seem to be saying Brian is soloing because the audio solo now matches Brian going up and down the fingerboard but that is really when Brian is just playing the second versions main riff and some might also think it's new footage but it's not.

Just thought I'd make that a bit clearer.

Hm, very strange with the ton of overdubs, but a very, very good version, imo.

Is this backing tracks recorded for a tv-performance, matrix-mixed with the early studio version, perhaps?

It's this one:

Engineer: Ron Malo.
- Fanny Mae (Buster Brown/Robinson or Waymon Glasco) -unverified
- Good Bye Girl (BW)
- Key To The Highway (William Broonzy/Charles Segar) -STU on piano
and maybe Howlin’ Wolf on guitar
- Little Red Rooster II (Willie Dixon) -unconfirmed
- Mercy, Mercy I (Don Covay/Ronnie Miller) -early faster, funkier version
- Time Is On My Side III (Jerry Ragavoy) -guitar intro, STU on organ;
The Rolling Stones No.2-version
- What A Shame (MJ/KR) -STU on piano; 7“-version
