Help - Undercover - Guest stars?

A friend of mine told me that he heard a live version of undercover of the night featuring a super solo and asked me who could have played it. He told me that it wasn't a typical stones sound and technically-whise the solo was particulary well done (he is not a stones fan but he is a very good guitar player).

As far as I can remember there are no versions of U with guest guitarists. True?

During the UJ tour RW's sound was sometimes "Vanhalen-ish". Could the solo have been good ol' Ronnie's work?

It sounds odd to me that radios broadcast boots. Is there an offical U live version (the b.sides of the flashpoint singles?)

Off the top of my head, I cant remember Undercover being played live with any "guests".

They DID release a live version of the song officially. The version taken from the PPV show at Atlantic City on 19/12/89 appears on the 1991 "Ruby Tuesday" live single

Perhaps Mick played the song on his solo tour in the late 80's? If that was the case then it could have been Joe Satriani playing lead.

Woody has played some great leads on Undercover. Listen to Atlantic City 89!

Doesn't appear to have been played on that '88 tour

Gazza:

Is the solo "single" version of U edited? If it is not I'll burn a copy of the Atlantic City 19/12/89 show for my friend.

By the way, what guitar was he using for Undercover (or SFTD)? My memories oof the SW tour are quite faded by now. It can't be his old suburst strato, can't it?

The single version from Dec 19 1989 is remixed and approx 5 secs shorter.

Both Keith and Ronnie played Ernie Ball guitars on that tour. Not on every song of course. Maybe Mathijs can shed some light on this?

On the studio version he used one of his strats, and on pic's of that time he seemed to be particularly fond of a 1956 blonde Strat. On the SW/UJ tour he used both the '54 sunburst strat as well as the Musicman/Ernie Ball Silhouette guitar for Undercover (btw, the most ugly guitar ever made IMHO!)

Didn't he also use a red ESP RW Signature Tele on the SW/UJ tour?

Yes - he used the B-bender ESP for songs like Rock And A Hard Place, Before They Make Me Run etc.
