Happy Birthday Mick Taylor !
Posted by: ComeOn ()
Date: January 16, 2005 21:49

Today 57 years ago a little boy was born in Welwyn Garden City , Hertfordshire he was named Michael Taylor !
Hope he will keep on playing the blues for many years on the good old Gibson Les Paul in the same sublime and brilliant way , that it was played here in Scandinavia in december last year together with Wentus Blues Band from Finland !

Well thanx for the correction ! Now I realize that I was 2 hours & 15 min. to early ! :-) I`m sorry about that , but I hope it will not overshadow the message that 57 years ago (one of these days) a GREAT guitarist (when we talking about the blue blues) was born ! Haleluja !

Mick Taylor is 56 today not 57, he was born on January 17, 1949 not 1948 as many many books and websites say. The confusion started since the Hyde Park conference and it's pretty common to make this mistake. I know Mick don't care too much now, specially that he looks younger hehe

Sorry Hot Stuff but first of all that website was made by my friend Ed not by Mick taylor Ed is also a regular of the SW5 List and it's wrong... soon you will see that error fixed

Since you don't trust neither me nor Open GI asked the experts at the Mick Taylor's SW5 list and Curtis Smith the moderator and the guy in charge gave me this great reply confirming the year as 1949.

For those interested to subscribe to the list go to this link and register [lists.topica.com]

He was born January 17th, 1 9 4 9 ! The mix up stated when he joined the Rolling Stones, the press got a hold of the incorrect date and the publicity resulting from Hyde Park alone was enough for people to continue to add a year onto his life to this day. I think the reason that websites and books continue to spread this mistake is for a few reasons.

a. Mick never took pains to correct this error on a mass scale.
b. The Hyde Park press coverage will surface early in a research query. Mick told me he still remembers the name of the reporter who started saying those things, like the vegetarian rumor.
c. They can't find 1949 in print, so they go with what they can find.

Thanks Curtis!

Also you can see the credits in the pre-hyde park album "Blues From Laurel Canyon" and it's clearer than water thet it's 1949.

It's not big deal but basic stones-culture

This is me and Mick during the interviews I conducted for TV and Newspapers in 2001

During those days in addition to the interviews we shared a lot of time and fun, I can consider him a friend I didn't ask that question as I already knew the answer, but Curtis did it and you now have the right answer

BTW, this have been discussed several times in e-mail lists and forums and the date 1948 is in many books, encyclopedias and websites but it's just a big mistake

Are you convinced now?

Now that you're there take a look to that GREAT website by Ed, it's not official as it was not the late Gary Paranzino website
