Really ? Yeah "Fiji Jim" is another related question, I want Mick to give me the transcript of that AOL interview he did (he had these funny "frog" glasses on) where he mentioned "Fiji Jim".

I guess Don Was might know too, let's track him down and threaten to remove his glasses and hat, that should get him talking.

good post, dan.

i do know enough about jazz to have some fun chatting with charlie.

i think a better question is which stone would most like to meet me and why?

they read this board and i'm sure you're their favorite poster.

that's easy for them to say - let's see them prove it with something tangible.

you would like a sign?

i'm looking in the texas sky now for a cloud shaped like a tongue

Let's see, meeting Ronnie could be fun, but he can't drink anymore. He might tell some good stories, but, if you read his autobiography, they might be totally full of shit. Mick would be a little intimidating, but he might surprise and be down to earth if he didn't feel he had to be on. I could talk to Charlie about Jazz and the Civil War. I would love to ask Keith a million questions, but would he answer them truthfully? Mick Taylor is still a mystery. Bill would be fun, and I'd love to get to know his 'wicked' sense of humor they all talk about. But I have to pick one? All right. Keith. The Stonesiest of the Stones.

I would go for Keith and Mick J long time ago....now I will pick Charlie OK it's difficult to interview him because he would answer most questions with ...were just a band nothing more...and I'm just there drummer ...what's the fuzz ;o)
I would ask him about the the aftermath, BTB, Beggars(*) and Bleed session

(*) I think this will be the most boring one for him yawning smiley)

that was cool, thanks. a real nod to the everly brothers. guy can play everything
from roots reggae to thrash, as well as about seven other instruments.

bass player/musical director multi-instrumentalist adam blackstone works for
about ten top acts but chooses to tour with rih. he started playing bass and drums
with adults at age 6 because he was that good already.

drummer chris johnson started out as a gospel singer and credits led zep among
his major influences. long list of drumming credits including stevie wonder,
seal, and patti labelle

and keyboard virtuoso Charlie Prince was raised on theolonious monk and herbie
handcock. worked with john mayer and don was recently.

these four guys are why she can tour and do shows without rehearsals. she's
gonna need every bit of their fire power if her first stadium shows in a few
months are gonna be successful (two nights at twick). she's no mick jagger yet,
or even tina turner, but its fun watching her grow into the role.

(charlie prince on performing) "I have a good time. I have fun on stage. I like
to lose myself and just be a total reflection of what I’m feeling and how I feel
about the music at that moment. So, sometimes it gets very animated…it’s always
sweat, it’s always working hard, but mostly, it’s just to have fun."

(Does Rihanna encourage that?) "Oh yeah. She encourages the rock star in everyone."

They get paid as well? winking smiley

BTW, revvy, do you have some roots/reggae-clips with Nuno, where he plays with authenticity, from the soul, and not only technical? Just asking...

I shouldn't have used the word "roots". Just "reggae" would have been enough.

From the soul? Hmmm. Well, as far as I know, he's not Rasta, so how about
"from the heart". Its definitely not just technical, he always plays with
feeling, as does all her band. They're technically top-notch, but they don't
play that way. They play hard and loose, like all great bands.

As I've stated before, these most recent shows of hers are the first where
she's spotlighting her band. I even wrote her some months ago, suggesting
she bring her band more upfront. I found it very disrespectful that she kept
them so much in the background. Especially since she's a music person first,
a song person second, and a star third. Believe it or not.

Anyway, I just looked and there does not seem to be a stand-alone version
of "Man Down" from the London 777 show on youtube, the only purely reggae song
they played (although all her music is informed by reggae and dancehall, what
she grew up on). So you'd have to watch or download the whole show. Its about
one third of the way in. Nuno plays scratch rhythm enthusiastically, without
the slightest hint of the impatience that most shredders show when their job
is to augment rather than dominate the sound.

And that in a nutshell is why I love her band. They're all virtuosos yet they
all subsume themselves into what's right for the song, which can be quite
minimal (technically) at times. But they never let up on the feeling. Even
when they're not playing much, they're moving and grooving for real.

Also very important: these brilliant musicians all acknowledge rihanna
as their band leader, the one that calls the shots and shapes their sound.
sort of like james brown did. what everybody who works with rihanna says is
she knows what she likes and she knows what she wants. she picks the songs,
the producers, the musicians, the arrangements, the everything.
