I totally agree. Among other things, an intelligent lyric writer and that is all too rare. Seen in him concert twice. Seated at the piano he performed the quieter songs really well and then really let it rip on the louder stuff. Really great. Also a man who's not afraid to do something different, doesn't always play it safe.

Huge fan. Great writer (typewriter style) of songs, and equally powerful as writer of fiction and screenplays.

I like him, but found the Bad Seeds were at their best when they had Blixa Bargeld and Mick Harvey in them.

Yeah the loss of Bargeld and particularly Harvey has hit the Bad Seeds hard. Their spiky, angular avant-garde live sound has been replaced by a kind of ploddy, rocky sound which really doesn't suit them. Tracks like Deanna have lost their anger and danger and become safe and lumpen. The Mercy Seat used to be a dramatic highlight of their live set but it just drags these days.

I love Nick but he's only as good as his band/right-hand man, Warren Ellis just isn't the best foil he's had and it's bringing Cave's work down. His best work was definitely with Rowland S. Howard and Mick Harvey.

His new film (screen play he wrote) Lawless is pretty darn good. Worth a watch for gangster fans.

The Bad Seeds shows I attended was with Blixa in the early 1990
I've seen as well a lot of shows with "Einsturzende Neubauten"

Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds have always "touched" me. Seen him a few times live, first time in the early 90s - fantastic, intense experience! And yes - Blixa Bargeld is missed....

Once I gave a red rose to him at the back entrance before the show at the Friedrichstadtpalast in Berlin. He seemed to be very nervous, but friendly.
