Deep Purple, Rush and Joan Jett. Should have all beaten Madonna into this so-called hall of fame, imo.

The HoF is meaningless.

I'd like to congratulate RUSH, but it means nothing to them so why bother.

what rock and roll songs does Bob Marley do?
what rock and roll songs does Miles Davis do?
what rock and roll songs does Jimmy Cliff do?
what rock and roll songs do The Bee Gees do?

Why are those artists in the hall of fame if they don't play rock and roll? Is it because they are influential and culturally important? If that's the case, then Public Enemy and N.W.A. deserve to be in there.

This is a correct answer, but sorry, for hostoprical purposes, not correct enough.

Ya know, I bet even Ice Cube is shaking his head at this silly crap today.

N.W.A. stands for Niggaz With Attitude. So what?
I'm unaware of what that album title means.

And it's great to see you mocking something that you don't understand.

These threads for the nominees to
"The (mostly N. American) music, and rap, tourist attraction in Cleveland"
are always good for many posts, and a few laughs.

Max'sKansasCity, why is Miles Davis in the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame?

Do you think he belongs there?

You have the name wrong..... it is correctly to be called the
"The (mostly N. American) music, and rap, tourist attraction in Cleveland"

and if you want to further call it correct...
"The (mostly N. American) music, and rap, tourist attraction in Cleveland designed to bolster the ego of Jann Wenner"

If I may, I think Miles' induction was pointless.

He didn't need that validation....he's Miles Davis.

At the time, they justified it by talking about Bitches Brew, and the fact that he played some rock festivals.

While Miles is great...and certainly cool, his impact on rock n' roll on a 1 to 10 scale measures at about zero.

I think it was more like the selection committee trying to show how hip they were. In the meantime, people like Jon Lord, Delaney Bramlett, etc., etc., wait their turn and die before they get there.

Rush was inevitable eventually, like plague and a giant asteroid.
I saw rush so many times in my youth that they seem like a bar band.
Seems they played around here at least 3 or 4 times a year.

Now the early stuff just makes the little hair on the back of my neck bristle.
Not in the good way.

It's like when you've gotten sick too many times on Jack Daniels and just waving a shot of it under your nose brings back the feeling.
Similar to hearing "The Trees" now. Imediate nausea.

-Rush
-Paul Butterfield Blues Band
-Albert King

-Procol Harum
-Heart
-Joan Jett And The Blackhearts
-Randy Newman
-Public Enemy
-N.W.A.
-Donna Summer
-Chic
-Kraftwerk
-The Marvelettes
-The Meters

joan jett? is this a joke? so why not the runaways then? donna Summer and Joan Jett were nominated ? disco and a 2-hit-wonder? The RNRHOF is a joke.

it's not the disco hall of fame or rap hall of fame is it? or a German high tech music hall of fame is it?

like rush or not, and i'm by no means a staggering rush fanatic, but they're huge and infuential amongst metal head progressive rock types, are 3 stand up guys who have sold a staggering number of records, and been a massive influence to countless artists, some of whom went on to become quite famous themselves. and they've managed to remain humble and stay friends throughout their 40 plus year career

Always amusing to see people show their ignorance by talking shit about Joan Jett.

Joan Jett had been more rock and Roll (in every way) for longer than most groups (or people) which anyone talks about on this, or any other, board.

oh its the guy that thinks motley crue is good pimping for joan jet now; hooray

joan friggin jett and the (one hit wonder) blackhearts? who? what??

right there next to the Beatles, Stones, Temptations, Bob Dylan, etc??!! are you KIDDING me??!! that's like nominating Cleveland as the top beachshore destination resort of the year

how does Joan Jett & the Blackhearts get nominated before dire straits? or a host of others?

but its great to see the meters there, and take heart SRV fans, his nomination is coming slowly but surely. it's actually proper that first Freddie, and then Albert King would and should get nominated before him

this is at least the 4th year stevie ray vaughan has been eligible and still not even nominated. also not that i think they should get in but motley crue, bon jovi and def leppard have been eligible a few years and not nominated.

I think Albert King deserves to be inducted before Stevie Ray. The originals first, then the copy cats, no matter how good they were.

I think new york dolls deserves to be inducted before motley crue. The orginals first, then the crappy copyist.,

First The MC5, The New York Dolls, Stiv Bators, Nick Cave, Television, Gene Vincent, Eddie Cochran, Big Mama Thornton, (...joan jett someday in far away later in future, maybe...)

RUSH's cool response on facebook today:

"We are honored to be among the nominees for this year's Rock 'N Roll Hall of Fame. We are especially thrilled for the many, many dedicated RUSH fans to whom this nomination is so very important." - Geddy Lee, Alex Lifeson, Neil Peart

Yeah, Rush has said they don't care at all about it, but they know how it means something to the fans. They'd show up and accept it and probably make a great speech.

What I'd like to see is Rush show up with dates & guests among whom would be three fans. When it was time for Rush to receive their award, have the band accept it but let the fans make the speeches on their behalf. Talk about giving something back to the fans.

As much as I'd like to see Rush & Heart get in, I'm really going to be rooting for Albert King, Joan Jett & The Meters. One can only hope that someday we'll see The J. Geils Band on the list.

Peace,
Mr DJA
