OT: Chuck Leavell's column in Virginia Quarterly Review
Posted by: rbarnes00 ()

Not sure if this has been previously posted, but Chuck Leavell has written the first column for a new series published in the Virginia Quarterly Review, a semi-academic journal published at the University of Virginia. It doesn't look like there will be musical content. Instead it is a reflection on southern nature and gardening. The online version is subscription-only, but here is a link:

Look like one must be a subscriber to read it... but thanks. [www.vqronline.org]

The excitement and arousal is too much to handle.

I saw it in a library the other day and noted it, but didn't have time to scan it, otherwise I would've scanned and posted it on "some kind of stones connection"

Since I live in the Virginia Commwealth I will see if I can get a copy and share it. I don't really want to subscribe, southern nature and gardening not being my thing, but I know lots of people that have a UVA connection, so I'll see if I can scrounge up a copy.

They should now rename it the "Sweet Virginia Quarterly Review."

Hey Rockee, I've got the article, saved as documents on my computer, but I can't figure out how to paste it here. Do you want me to email it to you and then you can post it? Or you can try explaining to me what I need to do, but that might take a while...

Forgot to send along the VQR bio of Chuck, so here it is:

"Chuck Leavell’s piano and keyboard has been heard alongside Eric Clapton, The Rolling Stones, George Harrison, The Allman Brothers Band, Blues Traveler, Martina McBride, John Mayer, and many other prominent artists. He has also authored four books, most recently Growing a Better America (Mercer, 2011), which explores smart growth. A conservationist, sustainable development advocate, and tech entrepreneur, Leavell and his wife live on their award-winning tree farm, Charlane Plantation in Bullard, Georgia."

I admire Chuck's dedication to the land, say what you will about his playing with the Stones, he's a good soul. I am going to be in Athens, Georgia next weekend, which is only about 2 hours from Chuck's place. Wish I could drive down to see it, and maybe catch a glimpse of the piano man himself.

Oh, and you're very welcome, Rockee.smiling smiley
