What is left in The Rolling Stones vaults ??

Just wonder if we will ever see unreleased Cd/Or DVD stuff who was not released on bootleg dvd/cd before..

Is there a chance a 1968-1976 concert was filmed and never was released on boot
to show up ???

I would think mostly alternate studio takes/mixes and demos, which would be excellent for deluxe 2-CD treatments of albums, particularly the ABCKO series--hell, I'd buy them all over again with that sort of presentation, and why not? It sure beats buying another greatest hits package.

I saw in the past some 70s footage live-Keith with his fiber armstrong gtr- wich was great quality, still I cant believe that someone came filming only a few seconds....
Probaly there is much more filmed than ever surfaced on boot dvds

There is a treasure trove of stuff. The fact Plundered came out and no one here had even heard of the basic track before, it was the tip of the treasure trove. I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of the boots out there now were leaked by The Stones themselves. For sure a lot of it is pilfered and sold by insiders, but I do think the Stones do "release" a lot of it. There is without a doubt another load of material, that we know in lore, that they are sitting on, and it is amazing they really don't get their s h i t together and really start putting out some high quality box sets and collections, rather than another 50 to 80 songs we all already have. I am hoping that the HBO film will point to glimpses of the treasure, and perhaps, just maybe the gates were opened and will open further with more excellent material like Exile and to a greater extent Some Girls.

A short list of filmed stuff (pro-shot) we know and we've never seen :
Olympia 95
Paradiso 95
Brixton 95 (only shown once at the Brixton Academy)
No Security Tour 1999 (some shows were professionaly filmed with additional material)
Ahoy + Vredenburg 2003 (some songs filmed with movie cameras on each show)
Paris + London 1976 : the late Freddy Hausser filmed all Paris show but also at least one London show. He made a mint digital transfer of everything he had in 2003.

I'm sure some people have more to add.

There are probably tons of live material. I'm guessing that most, if not nearly all, live shows from 1972 and on were recorded by the Stones. Wyman mentions that some 1971 shows (more than Leeds) were recorded. we also have evidence that there exists Maysels Brothers film outtakes (possibly hours of additional Altamont and MSG footage) and there are plenty of CS Blues stuff left on the cutting board (just look at the Plundered My Soul videos).

I'm serious when I say that they should release whole tours like a downloadable bootleg series, like every show from '72.

yes right
Many years ago, I met a guy who knew Freddy Hausser in a disc convention in Paris. He told me that he also filmed some shows in 1973 during the European Tour.
That would be great to see these shows come out some day.

He was on stage too in paris in 1982 with a camera. Later at a Clapton show, as I asked him about a chance to watch the result in the future, he replied me that it was shit. Don't know if he meant about quality or about the copyrights.

Those recent (official) pictures of their archives on rs.com are a good indication, I'd say. On the other hand, one has to keep in consideration the media deterioration. I bet a lot of older recordings would need a helluva re-mastering work in the studio to consider a proper release, particularly film and video recordings. But I guess it's easy to assume there are enough gigs on tape on their archives to keep us going for the rest of our lifetime smiling smiley

They must have every concert recorded since at least 1981, maybe even all the way back to 1969? Maybe they don't want to bother with this kind of stuff too much?

You're right! For their live DVD Page had to work hard to save the 1975 London video footage. For a start the rotten tapes had to be baked then a machine compatible with the 2-inch format the shows were shot on had to be found for the digital transfer...

I hope someone transferred what's in the Stones vaults years ago

In this documentary "Being Mick", there's a short part where Mick oversees a whole bunch of tapes from around 1980. I remember the reporter asks Mick if he's proud of all the music he's made in the past, and I think Mick also talks about how they work with the tapes to preserve them for the future (he's not saying he's about to make any releases, just that they have to be kept in shape or whatever ... this was several years before any of the archive releases were done anyway).

@ Rockmans post

I think that's the problem (or one of them) with much of the earlier stuff.
I posted years ago that I'd been told that a lot original material was missing or faulty.
And reg. that warehouse, - those books wont be the only things ruined by the flood.
So nobody knows what's still really there and in good enough condition.
I'd like to know who's responsible these days to sight/ search the material.Maybe Don Was? Gimme that job!

Tons of stuff. 50 years worth. Who knows what gems are buried.
" We had it made" They should freshen it up. One of Keiths better efforts.

This is the only known photo of the Rolling Stones' vault. Lots of good stuff in there, but we have to dig it out.

The post '90 stuff doesn't interest me much. All those shows were pretty similar. And much of the mystery is gone. But that's just for me. For many these 95 shows could be the Grail.

I saw the Brixton 95 video at the Academy srceening (together with the late Nikki Sudden). I wasn't that convinced. Best Club film material should be Paradiso.
But of course there is great audio stuff from all shows - or they could do a longer Stripped version.

Not exactly 50 years worth. A Bigger Bang was recorded on a computer so you can forget that one.

What was the last album they recorded to tape on? Voodoo?
