She had a "kickass" voice, that's for sure.

Loved her voice. They got a bad rap for making sugary records - and they did - but Richard Carpenter had a great ear and was an excellent arranger.

Here's the "kickass" drummer video!

Incredible talent and sorely missed.

Loved the Carpenters. In my family car as a kid, we had two 8-tracks everyone could agree on during long car trips: a Carpenters compilation and Simon and Garfunkel compilation.

I love Bonnie Bramlett too, but Karen gave Superstar a haunting, ethereal quality. It's the definitive version. Sonic Youth came close.

the Carpenters had the hit version, and its a nice version of 'Superstar'

however ...its a bit too 'nice' I prefer the version by Bonnie...soulful to the max imo, and not cleaned up for radio..

But it was a great production, with the quiet, slow verses, almost dirge like, and then the chorus. Bonnie's version is too soulful - I know that sounds crazy, but that's not the song to me. Its haunting and Sonic Youth's version sort of paid tribute to Richard's production.
