Somewhere down the line (and I mean decades ago) the band's (Jagger's) put downs and general negativity no longer seemed cool and became tiresome and I realized much to my dismay that in large measure lyric-wise that is all the band had to say. That is where Jagger's mind goes when writing a song, over and over, sex and put downs. It's almost pathological and has become for me creepy. Keith is another matter, but he seems to have little say in the matter. Can anyone actually listen to this song and enjoy it?

it's the singer, not the song.

I strongly dislike everything about this song. This one and Driving Too Fast both fall into the filler category for me.

Yes, I enjoy it - the guitars are great and the lyrics are funny.
And if the main thing you're hearing in Stones lyrics is sex and negativity, I'm sorry for you -
try listening for something else, you know? Sex and love, yearning, philosophy, good and evil,
self-reflection, parenting, politics, the road, faith, vulnerability, dancing, close calls, wealth - all there on a regular basis, along with the sex and putdowns and rock & roll.
Give the last several decades-worth a listen with an open mind and ears! And enjoy the hell out of it
because that's what it's for.

I agree that one of the pleasures of latter-day Stones are some of Mick's lyrics: here the little comic vignette of elegant Mr. Jagger, sipping a civilised coffee over the serious pages of the morning papers, suddenly faced with the appalling sight of whoever-it-was. People sometimes complain that the Stones don't write songs about Growing Up and Getting Older - yes they do, and this is one of them.

I like to listen to it in the aBB context. It jives with Dangerous Beauty and Driving Too Fast, but if it comes up on shuffle, chances are I'll skip.

Not sure what you mean? LIND is the only song you can listen to ... or LIND spoiled the whole CD for you?

Just arrived at LWTCDI while giving Bang a spin. My mind isn't on it but I can groove...

Somewhat boring and sterile song. Just doesn't excite and I would never purposely select it.

It's one of the most polarising on the albm; even from release, I cannot believe it' 10 f'n years ago, ten!! The Cat was one of the least loved even then, should have been called "Look what the cat stepped in" the ammount of hate it got.

I love it, but I still think ABB ('A Better Bang' - my own 13-track version on ipod, cutting the 3 not so liked) is a great album. The albums since 1989 really I think are a strong latter period for the band; particularly Babylon, wonderful stuff. Voodoo has some filler, much too long, but overall it and the many great moments on the Brew/Stew/Residue set are very strong. ABB maybe my 2nd favourite behins Babylon (something just very special about Babylon, it felt relevant at the time; songs from it taking centre stage at the shows, the album as a whole was quality, the videos in high rotation here; great memories.

The Cat - with Ronnie's wonderful guitar runs and fills, the energy, the stomping chorus - not much roll but plenty of fiery rock!

Viva The Cat lol!

It stinks along with most of the tracks on A Bigger Bang.
If you had to compile a Stones worst-of album this would have to be included.
Bring back Mick Taylor!
Have a nice day.

Look what the cat dragged in: Another mediocre Vegas-era studio track.

I keep forgetting to share this mash up of Beastie Boys and Rolling Stones that I made a few years back:

Lifestyle Of The Cat (Beasties vs Stones)

it's a kick ass song. cutting edge rock and roll..stones proving it can evolve and stay fresh. It's just a lot of people aren't in to that. They like what they know and now have grown old. To call this song generic is ridic.

Some of ya'll may have gotten a little..yes smileys with beer

It's very hard to listen to this one all the way through. I love the album but there's a couple songs that could have been left off, such as this one & Driving Too Fast.

I love both of them. In fact they are among my favorite of the album.

One of those songs that forever will plague the latter-day Stones. ABB could have survived without it. I don't get why albums like VL, BTB and ABB, wasn't editied down to around 10 songs. It would have changed the view on those albums as sharp and focused efforts. I even remember Virgin wanted the album edited down, but Jagger said no.

To my knowledge, the Stones themselves were very fond of the following songs:

Rough Justice
Let Me Down Slow
It Won't Take Long
Rain Fall Down
Streets Of Love
Back Of My Hand
Biggest Mistake
This Place Is Empty
Oh No Not You Again
Dangerous Beauty
Laugh I Nearly Died

-Those songs were mentioned again and again in interviews. Beware that it's not what the fans were fond of, but the band.

ABB could more than have survived without these songs:

She Saw Me Coming (endless rattleing)
Sweet Neo Con
Look What The Cat Dragged In
Driving Too Fast
Infamy
