at that time when Let it Be was recorded (january 1969) the stones had just released Beggars Banquet, a month previous, in December 1968!

Let it Be was pretty good (aside from the shmaltzy stuff on it) but Beggars is better than Let it Be, IMO

PS; keith never says he 'invented' the open G thingy

in 'Life' he clearly explains how the tuning was initially used by black blues guys, and all he did was incorporate chording, whereas they used it for slide, same as ry cooder did

What happened to "word of the day" posts? I actually never heard of naff or suss and found the inclusion to my vocabulary very rewarding! Howvever, I can't say the same for "jazz."

i liked both beatles and stones, but while the beatles were catchy tunes and easy on the ear, with some wonderful songs, they lacked the energy, aggression, beat and variety that the stones had and for much longer.

Beatles lacked aggression and energy and various levels of sounds? Hmm... did you never listen to Yer Blues? That is a raunchy, dirty song. John singing about wanting to die. It's in his voice. Helter Skelter. heavy tune. They have plenty of levels. They played many styles of music. Even more so than The Stones. I've shown this video on here many times, but watch Ringo from 1:44 on. He is HEAVY. Heavier than Charlie ever was. Rock and roll not a @#$%& boy band:

I remember John 'Cougar' Mellencamp thanking the Stones for never taking the living room out of their sound. In general I think it can be said that the Beatles were the better vocal group, but the Stones were more interesting instrumentally. Much of the Beatles music sounds like arrangements, good ones, that approach the sterile level of film music. The Stones by contrast almost always sound like a group of human beings set into a groove and playing off of that. The Beatles were probably better songwriters, with wonderful bridges, but in general the Stones were a better band.

The Stones were the better band by the time the Beatles officially imploded....and we will never know what would have happened had the Beatles stayed together till 1974 or 75. If you look at Lennon and McCartney's 70s output, the music is nowhere in the vicinity of what The Stones were doing.

They had a couple more great albums in them. Listening to their early solo efforts one wonders if only they stayed together sounding ideas off of each other. . ..
