I prefer "ballad" to be understood as something more spesific, even if I am not able myself to give an adequate definition. "Slow song" is even more evasive as term.

For all that, I would like to nominate one song that once was that important to me, and I still love it (I can't see it that it has been mentionned yet), "She Smiled Sweetly".

How can you have a real favorite because they have made tons of great ballads. To me, favorites change depending on your mood for the day. Stones ballads are like fine wine, and what your palate craves for that day.
