It's like Wimbeldon. I forget that it happens every year.

If we're lucky we'll know next year or so.

Still I love The Tour. Always great pictures of France on TV (they never tire) and in the mountains it's often spectacular. But I wish the whole doping question wouldn't play any role at all.

Hi KM,

Agree 100%. In fact I am sat watching the prologue now instead of getting out there and training, hah-hah!
Although I will be out for a 100-miler tomorrow. Ouch!

Cheers,

Simon.

I think this is a historical moment, the first time that I totally 100% agree with you smiling smiley
Too bad indeed that because of doping/legal procedures it often happens that you don't know who is the winner by the time the race ended, and sometimes you have to wait for a whole year.
And yes, the pictures of France on TV are absolutely fabulous. Even if you are not interested in cycling at all, it is a joy to watch the scenery.

Really Hansie? Then cheers!
Funny thing is that I more than once totally agree with you. Is that possible, I mean logically?

No he wasn't and he has admit it too. The same for that shy Dutch guy Zoetemelk. They simply all used (maybe some exceptions whose names we even don't know).

This is a sporting event that is dominated by the announcers. They are SO quick, articulate, knowledgeable and enthusiastic! Absolutely brilliant. They make the event for me. You can turn them off and watch the beautiful countryside (I've done that), but you'd be missing something. They make it exciting even though I still do not know exactly what is going on strategy-wise.

It takes years of experience to fully understand the strategy and tactics used in the Tour de France. There's so much going on: how to win the stage of the day, position in the general ranking, the diverse jerseys (yellow, green, mountain, youngsters), the relationships between the cyclists and their teams, etc. It's indeed complex, but once you understand a bit of it, it's really interesting to see and predict what's gonna happen. Some reporters are so good and well informed (the Belgium ones, the ex-cyclists who assist). And the stories. It's actually all about the stories. The Tour de France is history, romance, literature, drama, tragedy, dope and sport all in one. A unique mix.

A lot of pundits really fancy Bradley Wiggins to win this year but I'm not so sure. Cadel Evans might just be too strong in the Mountains. The Sky team is a good one though and they should really give Wiggins his best chance ever this year.
