Easy to pick number one on this one....

1) The Last Time smiling bouncing smiley

2) I'm Alright

3) That's How Strong My Love Is

(The only reason "Satisfaction" is not number two is because been hearing it toooooooo many times, over and over again for the last fifty years...but it's an incredible song really)

That's How Strong...
Good Times - RCA studios engineered by Dave Hassinger who also engineered the original Sam Cooke version at the same studio the year before. I always wondered if he suggested the song to the Stones?
Play With Fire - still prefer the stereo version on London Hot Rocks to the mono version found everywhere else.

Out of Our Head is a really good album. Still a lot of covers but already some classical Jagger/Richards compositions.
UK version have always seemed better to me though. Great flow and unity within songs.
On this version I'd pick She Said Yeah / Talkin' About You / I'm Free.

edit:
Didn't realize it's for scientific study!
So here's my pick with US version :
1/ Under Assistant Promo Man
2/ Play With Fire
3/ The Spider and The Fly
All of them being really good early Stones own songs.

Now you're talking. Easily the best pre-68 album.

1 The Last Time
2 Satisfaction
3 Under Assistant West Coast Promotion Man

That's How Strong
Mercy Mercy
Under Assistant West Coast

It's hard to consider "Satisfaction" a normal track. It's in a different zone.

I hope there will be a December's Children" thread too. Otherwise I will not be able to call out certain songs; using only OOOH US, I mean.

3) Talkin About You (UK album version) Spider and the Fly (US album version)

2) Mercy Mercy

1) She Said Yeah (UK album version) Satisfaction (US album version)

I have to pick Satisfaction because its a great song despite how many times I've heard it. The other two Play With Fire and Mercy Mercy. Cry to Me is tough to leave off.

Mercy , She Said Yeah, Cry To Me, Good Times, That's How Strong My Love is. I can't narrow it down to any less than that.

I'm afraid I'm partial to the UK version, therefore:

1. Heart Of Stone
2. That's How Strong...
3. Talkin' 'Bout You

OK, we have a result:

1/ Mercy Mercy 9 Strange
2/ Hitch Hike - Why when Mercy
3/ The Last Time 6
4/ That's how strong my love is 9 Yup, clearly the best one
5/ Good times 4 The Beatles diggers liked this one I remember
6/ I'm Allright 1 I loved this one
7/ Satisfaction 7 not on my Top 3
8/ Cry to me 2 told to be a brilliant guitar on this one
9/ The under ass 5 Also the Beatles-fan fav..
10/Play with fire 4 Popular amongst young people nowadays
11/The spider and the fly 2 My fave lyrics
12/One more try 2 also the Beatles-fans fave

So Top 3 is:

1/ That's how strong my love is & Mercy Mercy 9 votes
2/ Satisfaction 7 votes

By The Rolling Stones 3 great albums from 1964-65, we then collect those 12 voted songs:

1/ I'm a King Bee
2/ Route 66
3/ Tell Me
4/ Carol
5/ Down the road apiece
6/ Everybody needs somebody to love
7/ Down Home Girl
8/ You Can't catch me
9/ I can't be satisfied
10/That's how strong my love is
11/Mercy Mercy
12/Satisfaction

A very strong 'Best of'-album from Stones most Essential era...

We are a bit late, but the jury in Doxaland gives our points to following songs:

(observation: we are here so stubborn that we use the UK version, not the US one since it is much more challenging and don't include the way too obvious single hits... so I guess our points don't count, but it's alright)

1. "That's How Strong My Love Is" - with "Cry To Me" their strongest soul take ever. Contrast to their second album in this album the soul numbers finally work incredible well, and they have their energetic and original touch in them (half of the numbers actually are soul covers). There is so much tension in the atmopshere, and Jagger strong vocals ices the cake. He did a wonderful version of it during Licks tour, but, man, nothing suprises the fresh vitality and angst of this version.

2. "Heart of Stone" - A wonderful original; with it they seem to reach the direction and point what kind of stuff to express. In fact, all four of them are rather good and way better than the sketchy ones in NO. 2.

3. "Talkin' Bout You" - this was hard to pick up; it could have for or five other songs as well, but I choose it for its genious idea to bring a Berry rocker back to home to deeper Chicago blues (it's like "I Just Want to Make Love to You" other way round). It is also a sign that they could play the cover anyway they want to; they had the attitude and skills strong enough by then, and heading for total originality from then on.
