Last Stones song with a great Keith Riff...

Which was the last Stones song you can think of, that had that recognizable riff that just by hearing the guitar you just knew it was The Rolling Stones?
For me, it was "Start me Up"....and is over 30 years old, damn....

You Got Me Rockin', although I quite like the guitar line (is it a riff really?) on Infamy.

She Saw Me Coming has a great Keith-riff. Too bad they didn´t play it on the ABB-tour, after having rehearsed it several times...

Start Me Up? The mother of all riffs, but honestly there are douzins of great Keith-riffs after that:

- Mixed Emotions
- Terrifying (love that one!)
- Almost Hear You Sigh (due to the production it is buried a bit in the mix)
- Slipping Away
- Love Is Strong
- You Got Me Rocking
- Moon Is Up
- Flip The Switch
- Low Down
- Too Tight
- She Saw Me Coming
- This Place Is Empty

Not to forget all the great riffs with the Winos:
- Take It So Hard
- How I Wish
- Struggle
- 999
- Wicked As It Seems
- Eileen

Hmm...we have different definitions of "great". I would call most of those "good".

The last great recognizable Keef-riff for me would be Low Down. Also It won't Take Long has a starting riff that is very close to great.

Yeah, l have to agree with 71Tele to call some of those songs "Great" is a bit of a stretch, some of them are OK,but hardly recognition wise on the level of "Start me up". l do like TPIE,and TSH,and a few of the others. Oh well, different strokes for different folks winking smiley

Keith had zero to do with Don't Stop. The riff is Micks.

Oh sorry. Well, that is the last song that I think has a quintessential stones' riff. Rough Justice I think really sounded like them, but I wouldn't say that it's quintessential.......I just knew it was them instantly, but there was no real riff that I could pinpoint.....

"One Hit to the Body" comes to mind.
"Low Down" right after that.
What about "Flip the Switch"?

Is it Keith to the Right, or is it Ronnie? Hard to tell I Think, but I would guess Keith and Ronnie doing the slide parts?

It hasn't been written yet is my best guess, there's still a few surprises in the man I do believe! I'm not holdin' my breath mind you but we can only hope his best day is the last one he is breathing and the best songs are still to come. Otherwise why keep it up? peace

Several of his Winos riffs are GREAT imho, although mostly great within the context of what the band is playing, stand-alone great ala Stones CYHMK intro ..it's been a while. Start Me Up never did a thing for me, too contrived or something. I would have probably preferred it as a reaggae song. Hey welcome back Tele. London good to ya? peace

Start Me Up

Which is interesting, as I've heard it described as Brown Sugar backwards, and Brown Sugar is Mick's riff. Keith, trying to sound like Mick, sounding like Keith.

It won't take long and infamy are the only riffs on Bigger Bang that shout KEEF at me.

Rough Justice

Rough Justice ? A mediocre song in the first place, which then suffers the further indignity of being COMPLETELY and utterly ruined by the most awful lyrics ever penned ........... I mean what the f**k is the story with the first verse for example ? Ridiculous and thoroughly horrible !

One time you were my baby chicken
Now you've grown into a fox
Once upon a time I was your little rooster
But am I just one of your cocks

It's rough justice on ya
You're going to have to trust me
It's rough justice
But you know I'll never break your heart

So put your lips to my hips, baby
And tell me what's on your mind
I know you've still got the animal attraction for me
It's been a long, long time

It's rough justice on ya
We never thought it risky
It's rough justice
But you know I'll never break your heart

You're feeling loose and lusty
So if you really want me
Yeah, it's rough justice
And you know I'll never break your heart...Yeah

It's rough justice on ya
You think you really sussed me
It's rough justice
But you know I'll never break your heart

The first time I saw you, baby
You were springing like a young gazelle
And next thing I know, way down the road
You had me flying like a bat out of hell

It's rough justice on ya
Your eyes are too disgusted
You're going to have to trust me
But you know I'll never break your heart

I give you my positions
Don't want no oppositions
It's rough justice
But you know I'll never break your heart

Yeah
Come on baby Woo..

[ I want to shout, but I can hardly speak ]
