I guess that is one thing you can't deny about the Stones, they have never looked fat and really old. They stay very fit and still sound good.

I'm just glad Brian's still with us.

Am i the only one supremely impressed with Foster the People's version of Whouldn't it Be Nice?
The singer has a weak voice, but that's kind of perfect for the song. They got the music, the melodies, the instrumentation - everything that is genius about Brian is in this song, and they nailed the vibe, the greatness of this song live on TV!
If you;re not a musician, you have to understand: musicians give up trying to figure it out! That's why there are so few, if any covers of this song.
This is an epically, monumentally complex song - its orchestral, big, idiosyncratic - the bass is almost playing another song from the chords, which are playing a different song from the melody. And that tinkly piano is playing something entirely from another planet!
To get this song down with a live band is incredible. Color me impressed. By far, the best Beach Boy tribute I've ever heard.
Awesome!

I really liked it as well...great tribute and a great rendition of the song for all the reasons you listed. I also enjoyed seeing the Beach Boys themselves...sure they looked old, but they ARE old...what can you do! And it was cool seeing David Marks up there on guitar! I'm glad Brian's band will be along for the tour...should be fun.

Best part was that Lady GaGa did not win. Dressed up like an ass-clown for nothing.

Glad im not the only one who appreciated this performance. I just keep reading on blogs how the guy's voice was weak, but I don't think people realize how incredible it is to re-create the massive, swirling sound of this song onstage, live. and get it!
They somehow captured the essence of this song. Its my favorite song of all time, and so for me, this was epic.

Coldplay - once again proving they are the most boring band around.
Foo Fighters - They Rocked!
Adele - She deserved it!
Bruno Mars - Surprising (good) performance.
Bruce - I'm ready for his tour!
Nicki Minaj - Is she a joke? What a horrible voice.

Agreed, it is beyond me what her attraction is.

Manaj's schtick sounds like a cross between a crazy clucking chicken and a girlfriend I had (for a seconds) who bitched nonstop about everything and anything from the time of day to the brightness of the sun... hearing manaj's rapid fire cluck cluck cluck clucking buck buck buck bucking machine gun style clucking bucking gives me bad flashbacks.... YIKES!!!!

i thought everybody did good.

my favorites were bruno, rih, and breezy.

nikki's real good as the featured rapper on many tracks. the only song she
takes the lead on that i like, so far, is "fly", but she gets lots of help
from rihanna on that one.

to die at the grammies is quite the performance. i suspect whitney's death at
the global event marks the final triumph of the (counter)revolution she and michael
jackson and madonna started. The victory of pop over rock. oh well, it was fun
while it lasted. at least pop is world pop now, and not just some sickly sweet
american thing.

Paul is how old? At very least as old as Jagger, and he is out there singing his ass off. Loved the slow parts of "Golden Slumbers".
I think I'm the only one who was not at all impressed with the Boss. He
s been writing the same song over and over for the last 10 years.

As good as Adele sounds I just can't believe that she is just 23 years old. Not knowing her I would have guessed about 40.

One man's thoughts:

Bruno Mars is a real talent for years to come.

Rhi looked great as always.

Adele = lots of class, as opposed to Gaga and other attention whores.

Did Brian Wilson know where he was?

Felt sorry for Glen Campbell.

Chris Brown can really move.

Bruce's song sounded similar to "Girls In THeir Summer Clothes" but was weak lyrically.

LL did a great job.

Jennifer's tribute to Whitney was excellent, but why not Dolly Parton (she wrote the song)?

Amazing staging.

The whole damn thing made me feel old.

Oh yeah, the country chicks looked great as always - Miranda, the Perry girl, etc.

But I really thought Taylor was sexy in the retro country outfit. HOT!

I caught the last half of Foster the People preforming Wouldn't Be Nice...
What a great job. Most of the time they get the obvious artist to sing some half-assed or schlocky medley, but these guys obviously decided they were doing to do that song justice - they played every single note, sang every single harmony vocal and included all those instrumental whimsical touches of the original -
They did everything that is great about that song.
Very good job!

I thought it was good too. He looked like a deer in headlights for the first minute - absolutely petrified. I think I recall reading a while back where he listed The Beach Boys as being major influences to him.

For what it's worth, I really dig their Torches album.

Bruno Mars is talented for sure. But I don't understand what he is bringing to the table. Isn't he just a new Prince? The Second Prince?
