This has been the nicest winter in memory in Buffalo NY. Our great lake Erie has not even frozen over yet. Last year was horrendous. We had tons of snow and cold all season. Yesterday the sun was shining and about 40 degrees, I went outside in shorts to feed the birds some bread. My swimming pool has only a thin ice dome. I love it.

I had expected it to be cold but to my surprise when I landed in Europe the sun was beating down & people were in short sleeves. The trees & plants were in full bloom so it must have been this way for ages. And I forgot my sunscreen!

A bit nippy here in Poland, a couple of hundred km NW of Warsaw. It's about -15 C during the day and -25 C at night. Wind chill makes it feel worse though, mainly workin' outside !

Yep,

I live here in Finland and some say that it's a ..getting bit chilly outside, I guess so...It´s only - 42,7 °C this morning...but it might get bit colder during the night. Let's wait and see..(I'm not the guy in the picture but I decided to post this picture, because his backyard looks just like mine)
Yeah, it´s getting bit chilly around this time of the year..

Seems like the severe frost is over this time around. It only lasted for a few days. Otherwise we have had a very mild winter here. Today it's -13 C. I tell you that is very mild compared to -30 C!

First real freeze in the south of England this weekend. But all the heaters in my house except one won't work so i'm glad of it. My breath steams up every where in the house but if we'd had snow like last winter it would be hell right now.

Reporting from Vancouver...

High + 8 C and sunny
Low + 0 C and sunny

This is close to average for us, perhaps a little colder.

Best of luck to everyone in Europe...that is ugly cold. I hope we don't get 'our turn'!

this is why Sweden is the most richest country in the world (inhabitants),
imagine lazy & non reliable people in a polar country like this?
if u have not finished buiding your house before Winter: you die...
if you lie by -25 °C: you tell somebody you'll meet him & then you do not come
you can cause your friend's death waiting for you in the coldness

this is a philosophic question but: colder it is & more reliable & serious you have to be; if you lose some time in blablabla...: you die...

this is why there's no cold country in the Thirld World

this is my explanation but some might not agree

Hey, you should put some of your money to proper education as your neighbours (Norway and Finland) do... grinning smiley

thumbs up Finland is numero uno. I know theres one list right now where Finland is number ten but usually you top it. Sweden is way down. What did you think about the election? Not too political this is it?

@gilles, Sweden surely is not the richest country in world - at all; so you are explaning something that isn't right to begin with

Qatar, Luxemburg and Singapore are the 3 richest, followed by Norway

Yeah it's strange with Finland having the best eductation in the world - I would think you ran schools the same as we do it here, so....what's the trick ?

They dont run anything like us, thats the trick. Finland does everything right and is an example for the rest of the world.

I live in the Eastern part of the USA in the state of Massachusetts and we have had an unreal winter, with no snow to speak of and way above normal temperatures. It will be 48 here tomorrow, that's above zero. The rest of the week will be high 30's. Last winter was brutal, freezing cold, and storms twice each week, if not more, over 112 inches for the winter. Sicilian, don't you think we deserve a break this winter!? Last year nearly killed poor folks who couldn't afford the oil to heat their homes!
