I've always loved that song too and Ronnie does a great job on it.

Actually the whole band does a great job w/ that one.

I like the weave solo for Always Suffering too. smileys with beer

I agree. Always suffering is stunning, and so is the solo! :-)

Keith's great as a country balladeer.

The Thief In The Night/How Could I Stop segue that closes the awful Bridges To Babylon is amazingly kickass and poignant.

They must've forgotten that back in their heyday Mick sang the melodic tracks as well.

Slipping Away
Out of Tears (this one and Already Over Me make a very similar pair, and this is the one I prefer)
The Worst
Thief In The Night
How Can I Stop
Always Suffering
Following The River

I love Laugh, I Nearly Died, but it doesn't feel like a "ballad" to me.

What a fortunate thing. Those two closers are killer. Possibly the two best ever for a Stones album closing set.

There are plenty of solid ballads in their latter day catalogue. Bridges' AOM, AS and Keith's are pretty good. Voodoo's Blinded by Rainbows and Thru and Thru. ABB's TPIE, BM, SOL... But for me the top of the crop is SW's Almost Hear You Sigh.

Some of their ballads are one of the most poweful reasons why I am a stones fan and I think they have been/are the best in business.

They do not belong to my culture, the anglosaxon world has anything to do with me but....above all this determinisms...most of their "ballads" they deal with human, universal issues which are commont to all of us and they do it in a so genuine, authentic way (matching with my own views) that they hit the target all the time.

Some of their "ballads" flow like a film I would shoot to show a feeling. Sounding like a waterfall of precise images.

Musically it's OK, Always Suffering. Keith's solo is a great wonderful wonky thing, as well as his playing in general, especially at the end of the tune. Otherwise it's a terrible song. Mick's singing is atrocious and not even 1% convincing.
