Keith's Hair Trinkets
Posted by: stonesdan60 ()

This is nothing real serious or important, but I'm just curious if Keith has ever said anything regarding why he started hanging all these weird things from his hair. Someone has said that they have some sort of rasta-type significance but I've never heard Keith talk about it. I just can't help but wonder what would lead someone to start hanging things from their hair like that? Of course, knowing Keith, it may just have been some cocaine-fueled "great idea." LOL.

I don't know, but, it's a fairly common thing amongst older rasta guys down in the carribean - usually it's on their dreads, Keith has just adapted it as he has throughout his years in the stones. For much of the 70's he wore Anita's clothes!

He got his head stuck in the tackle box.

I remember hearing him say people keep giving him stuff to put in his hair. Maybe it's some friends from the Carribean? Or, it's the tackle box theory.

Your question made me laugh. I wondered that myself and I sport a pony tail. Whatever the reason I think it makes Keef more interesting - theres not too many people who can pull off wearing spoons in their hair!!!

Gazza (and Mick Jagger), does this look like someone who is not a happy person? The ornaments in his hair are common place jewlrey in the islands. Nothing unusual to me. I and I , Jah Rastafari! peace.

Thought the same thing ... he's got the Col Blake / McLean Stevenson thing DOWN.
Sans hat, of course. ( The hat he wears nowadays could qualify though ... )

He started using these hooks for the same reason the bandana went on in 1988. Hairloss.

Oh come on! He'd need a giant Conch shell for that, not a few cowries and fishing lures dangling off the sides.

Keith said his wife and daughters would try to remove some of his hair trinkets when he was asleep.

There's always the "spoiled elderly child" theory.

in fact i've read that it all started with someone in his family
threading some stuff into his hair while he was sleeping.

anyway it's a splendid, amusing and creative look - iconic, even!

i love the Rolling Stones

I thought it was just some prank his friends/bandmates/loved ones have been playing on him, and every time he passes out they put more crap in his hair, and they're still waiting for him to notice.

It's been pretty obvious that he started using bandannas to push his tangled mop from the front and sides up to create a bird's nest to cover an ever-growing bald spot, but I don't see where the dangling ornaments could help with that.

He needs to stop messing about and go for the full wig.

What an idiot. Doesn't he realize that the CIA can still beam messages into his brain via those little holes? It has to be solid or it's not going to work. Rookie mistake.

Why not some cigarettes or sheperd's pie in case he should be hungry. Except for fishes and camembert! Or a banana if Ronnie is around!

Well Keith's not quite at slap head level yet.

I think that's in part due to the partial success of the bandana hair poltus's.

As of late, I think he looks pretty good with the fedora. Maybe that's a look he should stick with, even on stage - gives him the authentic bluesman look.

He just want to be Steven Van Zandt and Tom Waits at the same time. Bandana and hat. But it is very ridiculous. In the 70's He dressed very classy with wonderful and cool clothes. He had a natural class. Now it is the Pinder Circus...

I wonder if Keith has to remove those things before going through airport scanners ?

He had class and I think he has now again with the hat. From 1988-2009 he had no style at all but now suddenly he has. Weird. But, its all about the hair. The loss of hair. It's the ame when people grow beards to make up for the baldness. Nothing wrong with that at all, but its not like people put that stuff in his hair.
