OT: The Oops! Too Late Thread (the artists we missed)
Posted by: BluzDude ()
Date: December 12, 2011 19:57

I don't know if this was done here before, but I thought I would start a thread dedicated to the artists or bands we missed seeing live. Not because we were too young, but because we didn't get into or start appreciating their music until it was to late, or maybe you thought about seeing them and didn't, then the opportunity never came again. Situations would be that a performer died, retired, or as in a band's case, broke up.

List as many as you can come up with. The first 2 that comes to mind for me are:

Muddy Waters
The White Stripes

I regret not seeing the Stripes. I've seen Bob Dylan over 160 times and the one time I regret seeing him was when I went to Orillia Casino (in Ontario, Canada) to see him in July of 2007 while the White Stripes played my hometown of London Ontario and did a secret show at Arva Flour Mill.

Regret not seeing Bob Marley, Talking Heads and Warren Zevon

Had tickets to see Zeppelin in '76, but Plant's son died shortly before the show and they never returned to my city.

I remember that. The Zep was scheduled to play the Rose Bowl (I had tickets) which at the time, would have been the single largest crowd to see a one act show (no opening act) in the U.S.

Wish I had gone to see Tina Turner when I had the chance.
Also Mom & Dad went to see Neil Diamond and said it was a great show.
Though not a huge fan, wish I would have seen a Grateful Dead show from the audience. I worked on of their shows as a crew member but would have liked to have had the audience experience one time as well.

Peace,
Mr DJA

The Velvet Underground reunion @ 1993 -- I should've gone to Europe to see them, but I foolishly presumed they would play the US.

Stooges (reunion again) w/Ron Asheton -- I was planning to see them in NOLA but Katrina @#$%& that up.

Mission Of Burma (maybe I'll get another chance for this band)
The Gun Club

For the most part, I feel very blessed by my concert experiences; I don't have many regrets. I'm still amazed I got to see so many bands that I never thought I'd have the chance to witness in concert (e.g., Roxy Music, New York Dolls, Gang Of Four original lineup, Wire original lineup...).

A lot. But one that always catches me by surprise when I hear 'em on the radio once in a while - Men At Work.

There are plenty of them but a few yaers ago I had the chance to go to see Hubert Sumlin but I didn't use it. I knew I would regret, and at the moment I really do. Perhaps for that reason Sumlin's passing really hurt me. I rememeber thinking at the time, "these guys are not here forever"...

Oh yeah, I "missed" Macca last night in Helsinki... In fact, never seen any Beatle in my life.

Freddy Fender (in his prime)
The Rolling Stones in 1973 (but then I was a bit too young)

I had a ticket for Stevie Ray Vaughan as well and didn't go because of a stupid softball accident where I sprained an ankle.:-(

Well, you also missed them at VoodooFest in 2003.

I never knew they were scheduled in NOLA in '05.

Chuck Berry and Bill's Rhythm Kings. I will never stop regretting that I didn't go to see those. Okay, there still might be a chance, but I doubt they will ever come close to where I live again...

There are many many other acts I would have loved to see, but there was no real chance, but those two...there was a very good chance that I missed.

The Who in 2000, turned out to be John's last tour with them. All I have is the bootleg of the show I wanted to go to (Tinley Park, opening night).
