Some Girls: Mostly Just a Bunch of Dippy Country Songs
Posted by: flilflam ()

I hate to say this, but I am really disappointed with the 12 new songs. First of all, all the songs just trail off at the end, as if The Stones could think of no better way of ending them. I Love You Too Much, Keep Up Blues, and When You're Gone are acceptable, but the rest are just plain bad.

Some people on this message board seem to think that if a Stones song is pulled from the crypt and resurrected on a CD, then it would have to be superior to anything else. This is just not the case. The Stones are better than this. Remember Under the Radar and Back of My Hand from A Bigger Bang. Those are great songs. I really hope the Stones have time to complete a new CD with fresh material in time for the world tour. I don't think the average fan at a concert will want to hear all of this C and W music.

They were outtakes, people. What the hell! They release a set of outtakes -- which we have longed for them to do -- and now people complain that they should've remained outtakes?

Holy Shiite!

I only counted two dippy country songs. Best songs on the disc too.

Perhaps because they didn't make the final cut then why spend time polishing them off ?

I am not complaining that they are outtakes. The problem is that they are VERY BAD OUTTAKES. Also, I never longed for a batch of outtakes to be rereleased on a new CD.

How would you have preferred the bad outtakes released then? (choose only one)
1. As releases on a new CD
2. As rereleases on a new CD
3. As rereleases on an old CD
4. As releases on an old CD
5. As releases and rereleases on 8-track or cassette, or tongue USB device

I'll ensure the proper authorities at UMe get your choice and have this situation rectified.

I still haven't heard these songs yet (mine hasn't arrived yet), so I can't opine on them, but as others have said, they're outtakes. If you didn't yearn for a CD of Outtakes, then you should have just bought the 2009 remaster and not paid for the bonus disc. You weren't forced to buy it, and there are other options when making your "Some Girls" purchase.

There's a reason they're outtakes, they were deemed not good enough to be on the album, or even completed in some cases. And when it comes to the Stones, they didn't throw a whole lot of stuff away, usually any songs from an album sessions that were deemed good but didn't make the record, usually made a later record. So you go into this bonus disc knowing that these were rejects. If one of them pops out and you like it, that's all the better, but you shouldn't go into it expecting TOO much.

I have a lot of Deluxe Editions of albums by bands I love and have lots of outtakes, and few of them are worth mentioning. It's mainly for satisfying the curiosity of the fans and tossing us some scraps that probably wouldn't mean much to a casual fan, but we'll find somewhat interesting. And some are good, I liked a couple of the Exile outtakes, but not as much as any of the tracks on Exile itself.

Under the radar? Useless and boring song. Back of my hand? Just a decent blues with awful vocals. ABB? The Stones are better than this.
