25 years of "Slide in this" and "Main Offender"

These records by Wood and Richards feature some songs that still have an aura. Back then the Stones still put in a lot of efforts into recording albums.

Two great albums, especially Slide On This, imo. Just a few months shy of Mick's Wandering Spirit (February 9, 1993).

Mick and Keith both finished their recording sessions in September 1992, while Ronnie finished up in February 1992.

Mick and Keith probably had a good talk before deciding on release dates winking smiley

I think the title is "Slide On This", but I like the way you think! spinning smiley sticking its tongue out

I still like Main Offender very much. Skipping Yap Yap and Bodytalks, it's a pleasure listening to the rest.

Wandering Spirit is best of the three.
Then comes RonnieĀ“s Slide On This.
Main Offender is the weakest (compared to those two and to Talk Is Cheap).

Amazing that it's been 25 years!

Have to go with Keith's Main Offender (even though it's his weakest solo album) followed by Ronnie's Slide on This.
Mick's Wandering Spirit doesn't even fit anywhere in the equation imo.

Yes, Talk is Cheap is far away his best solo album, and better than several stones albums!

Is Slide really that good? I've never really listened to Ronnie's solo stuff, tbh.

Main Offender is GREAT.

What an opening, 999, Wicked As It Seems and Eileen!

And Words Of Wonder!

But it goes downhill from there, except for the fantastic Hate It When You Leave.

If you said "Talk Is Cheap" is great as WS I could have agreed with you...

1. WANDERING SPIRIT
2. SLIDE ON THIS
3. MAIN OFFENDER

The best songs combined could have been a great TRIPLE ALBUM by THE ROLLING STONES in 1992-1993 or 1994.

I don't get it if IORR's find Main Offender as good as TALK IS CHEAP.

TALK IS CHEAP is a Masterpiece.

Best SOLO-album by THE GLIMMERTWINS ever. spinning smiley sticking its tongue out

Yes. Absolutely. Maybe not a triple, but a fantastic double album. Best since...you name it. So many great songs that easily fit the Stones wasted on solo albums. "Wasted" because almost forgotten, never been played live again since Keith's and Ronnie's tours and Mick's Webster Hall gig.

Great album title for this period after Bill left the band.

... an "Hate It When You Leave"! And the best song on the album could be "Demon" an overlooked gem.

People might think TIC is better... only because the songs are more accessible, more obvious with catchy hooks. On MO - apart from the 1st 2 tracks - the songs are more complex more jazzy, deprived of a catchy hook/riff.

And MO sounds beautiful, and so organic. I wish VL could sound like that.

Eileen..............

Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.............

Wicked As It Seems..........Later called The cousin of LOVE IS STRONG two years later. Same riffing, but superior by miles thanks to Mick, Charlie and Ronnie Wood.

Edit:
I take this back: WICKED AS IT SEEMS was/is a great also. Played it to dead in 1992.

I've sort of come to view TIC and MO the same way I view the Godfather I and II - they're somehow forever linked and intertwined.
That said, You Don't Move Me is probably my favorite Keith solo tune, which makes me lean towards TIC as the favorite.

I have "mixed emotions" with this albums, the positive side is that we all can enjoy the great songs, the bad side is that the Stones does not play it live in their shows becouse are in their solo albums, so it is almost imposible to hear this songs live.

I have the pleasure to see Keith Richards live in Buenos Aires during his Main Offender tour, it was great, but it was the only chance i got to listen gems like Demon, Eileen, and others live.

Bye
Fernando

I like Main Offender but I think Wandering Spirit is the best album released by the Stones or a solo stone since Some Girls. Think about how many great songs are on it (many of which would have been incredible Stones songs)....

- Wired all Night
- Use me
- Wandering spirit
- Don't tear me up
- evening gown
- out of focus

They should do some of the solo stuff as part of their set list.

It would be awesome.

While Use Me is a Bill Withers cover, I would add Hang On To Me Tonight, Angel In My Heart, and Put Me In The Trash as first-rate material that would have made excellent Stones tracks (although they don't really lack anything musically in any way)

Ronnie's stuff in general is quite good, IMHO.

His voice doesn't work for me. His guitar work is interesting however.
But I think Keith's work, also on Main Offender, as far as songwriting goes, and general mood+groove is much better.

That's how I felt too. But I've come to really appreciate the odd back-to-back Will But You Wont and Running Too Deep. It's like twin songs, starting from the same point but going different ways.
And indeed the superb "Hate It When You Leave" and "Wicked As It Seems" both make Main Offender stand out.
