(Mick Jagger / Keith Richards)

Keith Richards - electric guitar, backing vocals
Charlie Watts - drums
Ron Wood - electric guitar
Darryl Jones - bass
Chuck Leavell - organ

And it won't take long to forget you, time it passes fast
It'll all be over in a minute, you'll be in the past
You can lose the love of a lifetime in a single roll
You can gain a fortune in an instant, or you can lose your soul

And it won't take long to forget ya, you know I'm never wrong
It'll all be over in a minute and it won't take long

And it won't take long to forgive ya, but it's hard to forget
'Cause it seems like it's yesterday, the day that we first met
When you give me a smouldering look and you put out your cigarette
When I saw you come sauntering over, you wore a pale blue dress

And it won't take long to forget ya, you know I'm never wrong
It'll all be over in a minute and it won't take long

Life is short, one look and it's over, it comes as quite a shock
All I’ve got is some memories stuck in an old shoe box
And it won't take long to forget ya, you know I'm never wrong
It'll all be over by Christmas, no, it won't take long

It won't take long, it won't take long, it won't take long, it won't take long…

Produced by Don Was & The Glimmer Twins

First released on:
The Rolling Stones - “A Bigger Bang” CD
(Virgin Records / EMI TOCP 66440) Japan, August 31, 2005

Back to the basics. The kind of song they've been doing for ever since the late 60s.

Just as long as the guitar plays, let it steal your heart away

They've certainly recorded far worse.

Keith took this riff, and used it for the live versions of Infamy smiling smiley

IWTL is quintesseential Stones. It is vital, a slightly threatening feeling. Lyrically it is absolutely superb - an existential carpe diem. Mick's singing is astonishing and Charlies drumming too. The guitars match. It is kin to unsurpassable Stray Cat Blues (and to some extend to Gimme Shelter) - but on its own terms. It shall be played loud. A highlight on ABB.

for me the lyrics are fine, and the music is splendid, but they don't match well -
thunderous resonant music like that needs (for me) lyrics about a larger, more significant theme than this -
the nature of sin, or triumph over adversity, or something of that ilk

Reminds me of 'Shattered'. '..shidobee, shattered, shattered'. '..and it won't take long to forget you'.

This one leaves me cold. Seems uninspired and flat, just the Stones on autopilot.

The vocal melody of the chorus of this song pretty much reminds me of a vocal melody from one part of the Wallflowers' "See You When I Get There". My guess is this is coincidental but I like the Wallflowers song better.

I don't have much else to say about this song, but I must say "Under the Radar" and "We Don't Wanna Go Home" should be available on CD.

This song is 10 out of 10.

One of the best bridges ever:

Life is short, one look and it's over, it comes as quite a shock
All I’ve got is some memories stuck in an old shoe box

Nice track, excellent riffs & very strong vocals from the mickster, one of the better tracks on the album.

Well we must all try to be a little positive.
So here's my positive take on the track; the first time I listened to the 4-5 very first seconds of "It Won't Take Long"; I was HOPING that it would be a good song. Therefor; 1,2 out of 5 stars from me

Unfortunately it took too long the first time. Skip.

so, you're saying this song should have been edited down to about 4 or 5 seconds? i concur....

Yes, 4 or 5 sec.
For other RS albums; like "Voodoo Lounge"; it's easy to say that "the album should be edited down to 4-5 tracks, and it would have made a terrific EP". Or people who dislike "Undercover" (not me), will say the same about that album
But when it comes to ABB....it striked me now; that if they just took the 5 best songs of the album; and edited each of them down to 4 seconds each; it would had made a terrific *snippet*

you know what they say in show biz...always leave them wanting more.....even if it's in their best interest that they're not getting more....

This song never did it for me. I'm siding a little bit with with sssoul on this one...just an off match with the music and lyrics. Easy skip.

Here it is. Kind of 'I Go Wild' sort of? Another throwaway that breaks no ground. I'm not even sure Wyman's slinky, enveloping, warm, melodic lines could have saved this.

I dig the jagged riff in the beginning, as well as Charlie's typically off-kilter lead into it. But it's pretty uninteresting after that. Total filler. It didn't take long to forget it.

I always liked this song. One of the better tunes on A Bigger Bang I think....

The only thing cool about the ABB album cover is Charlie.

It is hard to see the semilarity between IWTL and IGW, but each to his own. I must admit I find it hard to understand, that true iorrians dó not love this track. It is astonishing, and far beyond achievements of contemporaries like Dylan, McCartney etc. Just like Rain Fall down. IMO.

I'm a true Stones fan but the last 15 years they produced only a hand full of listenable songs............so I suggest go back to their roots ..and don't over produce .....keep it simple because R&R is one two three and nothing more

Mick mentioned the track originated as more of a soul thing. Wonder if this, or some variation, was it:
