My CD player is also from the same year, 1989. I did not own a turntable before that (and still don't), neither did I buy any pre-recorded music cassettes ever.
Well, my first CD came after I'd already starting buying cassettes. I received my first 2 CD's for Christmas that year - Metallica's black album and Paul Simon's Concert in the Park. I think that was 1991?
My wife bought my first CD player for my birthday in the early 90's. She also gave me my first CD (which she knew was my favorite all time LP) - "Get Yer Ya-Yas Out". Still is.
That was probably in 1990. A friend gave me the first two, Storm Front by Billy Joel and Blue Sky Mining by Midnight Oil. And I am about 95% sure that the first CDs I bought by myself were Beggar's Banquet, Get Yer Ya-Ya's Out and TSMR.

The Doors "Strange Days" and, believe it or not, "Their Satantic Majesties Request". At the time I was building my Stones collection, all on cassette, so when CDs came into the picture, my first Stones CDs were not the ones most consider essential, hence I hadn't bought them on tape yet. That said, the much maligned "Satanic Majesties" still has a special place for me.....albeit a psychedelic and strange place.
Sgt Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band won it from a swedish Radio station june 1987...(pretty early huh!) they were celebratin the 20th year day of Pepper....
I know it should be all about the music, but there's something nice about having the physical product in hand. And I'm sure there's a lot of folks like me who ready the liner notes...
Bought my CD Player on Boxing Day 85 (day after Christmas in Canada), probably the busiest shopping day of the year! A&B Sound in Vancouver, bought a Sony CD player for "only" $399 on sale. CD selection at the time was very, very minimal. Bought Highway To Hell, Scarecrow and Born In The USA. Remember getting home and setting it up and marvelling at the sound, no ticks or pops and skipping ahead to the next song! Friends came over and couldn't believe the sound, either.
I got my first CD-player christmas 1992 together with the soundtrack for Wayne's World. I was a happy kid that christmas and I still have the Wayne's World soundtrack.
First CD I ever bought was Jerry Lee Lewis' Young Blood (Not long after I bought Green Day's Dookie). First CD I ever owned (Ie. not bought) was Absolute Music 7. I know, I know, but it did have Love Is Strong on it. First Stones CD I ever bought was Voodoo Lounge, Still Life and Jump Back (Purchased same day). That was in 1998.

I think it was 'Introducing the Hardline According to Terence Trent D'Arby', and 'Apetite for Destruction' in '87. But I do remember that I bought 'Talk is Cheap' and 'Steel Wheels' on vinyl. Probably because CD's where awfully expensive in these days.
