I don't think many people consider Abba or Madonna Rock & Roll either, but they still managed to get in there.

I know many people who don't even regard The Rolling Stones as a "Rock and Roll" band, The Beatles even less so. I personally wouldn't go that far, but if you're going to include rap & disco then you may as well include classical & opera also.

Someone/me/you/we/ should start a campaign to have them change the name of that place, or at least let em know it is a bunch of crap to call it the RNRHOF.... Every single board I read/post to, everyone seems to share same feelings and have been complaining for waaaaaay too long, every fkn year it is the same discussion... too many non-rock and roll acts get in... while too many real rock and roll acts do not....
maybe one of you people with your music blogs should step up and lead the charge.

2 corrections:
-The B-52s are not in the Hall of Fame (however I believe they should be).
-And Leon Russell IS in the Hall of Fame. He was inducted last year by Elton, but in the Sideman category.
Also, I'd like to add the Eurythmics to the list of artists who should've been nominated and inducted now. They were one of the most popular and successful bands of the 80s and helped define the decade. They had so many hits, and they've endured for nearly 3 decades as a band and as powerful solo artists. It's a true shame they haven't even been nominated.

Hmmm...I always thought "Rock and Roll" was a pretty inclusive term. Not sure why you would choose to exclude certain musical genres from it's definition....Oh, wait...looking more closely at your choices, I think I get it now. You are one of those guys who likes Rock and Roll but doesn't like predominantly black musical genres. Seems kinda idiotic and incredibly shortsighted.

It's really become a pop music hof, and that's disappointing to people who basically just want the fossilized stamp of approval for the "classic rock" format, which every year seems to become smaller and smaller - as more bands/artists are banished from the format with fewer and fewer let in. Even if they inducted everyone that could possibly qualify under this criteria, it would be a fairly quick journey to a dead end. Nothing wrong with that. But people don't like dead ends.
Instead they've chosen to open up to whatever made a commercial splash and got some good reviews for a comparatively sustained time very nearly regardless of popular music genre... I'm not interested in defending that strategy, but I can see why it's happening.
But even more so, I don't really care if Journey gets in or not. Or REO Speedwagon. Or Creed or Dave Matthews. I just don't care about them...
Even in that context though, if this is the way its going to be, there will always be some odd choices. Why wouldn't Donna Summer be in yet?
