Which Album should they Re-Make?
Posted by: MisterDDDD ()
Date: April 3, 2017 18:00

Just heard a favorite artist of mine (Lucinda Williams) is currently in the studio re-recording an album to celebrate it's 25th anniversary (Sweet Old World).

I think this would be a great "new studio album" idea for the Rolling Stones..
It would be interesting to see how different an album and the band would sound some decades later.. Not a live version of one of their albums..(ala Sticky Fingers @ Fonda), But a total studio re-do.

Would love to see them tackle Black and Blue, Goats Head Soup, or even Tattoo You.

That's an interesting concept and Black and Blue and GHS are good picks, I think Tattoo You is perfect.

I strongly prefer an album of new original songs!

Bad idea - time for something new and original.

Oh no. Re-doing their own albums (songs) in a studio would be confessing that they currently have absolutely zero to offer. Better another Blues- or Soul-cover album of songs they have not done before. Even doing nothing is better than re-recording their own songs.

Nooooo way ! Anyone remember McCartneys "Give My Regards to Broad Street" with all those Beatles remakes ? GAG.......

Remake studio albums? What a nonsense!

I wish they would remake Dirty Work, improve it by making it all silent so that I can listen all the way through.

I used to think it would be a good idea from them to re-record "No 1" fifty years later...

...but B&L has pretty much scratched that particular itch for me winking smiley

To clarify.. not in lieu of a new studio album.
Perhaps in addition.

Would seem a worthy concept.. and like B&L, wouldn't take a lot of time.

I think we would be surprised with an album like this.

INXS did their own tribute album with guest vocalists and I, for the most part, enjoyed it.

Keith has always compared new studio tracks as "babies" and then they "grow up" when they take them out on tour and perform them live.

I'm not sure I'd want a redo of a complete album but would enjoy a "warhorses" redo.

A few tracks I'd like to see how they've "grown up?"

1.Jumping Jack Flash- the original version was recorded before Keith discovered open G tuning.

2. 19th Nervous Breakdown- just like the song.

3. Start Me Up- my favorite Stones riff!

4. Gimme Shelter

5. Street Fighting Man

6. Wild Horses

7. Going To A Go Go or Just My Imagination.

8. Some Girls- as Mick has experienced more relationships since this song was recorded, he could alter or add a few new verses.

9. Worried About You

10. Emotional Rescue- Darryl Jones bass playing would add a whole other level to this song.

11. Miss You- same reason as Emotional Rescue-Darryl

I'd even love to hear a redo album entitled "Open G."

For myself, the open G chord is like heroin to my ears.

I would welcome an album like this!

I would love them to make a double album out of all the songs in the late 60's 70's and early 80's that didn't make the final cut on the albums.
Considering the Stones never released their best work as singles proves they don't always know their best work. I'm betting there are about two songs on each album that didn't make it but are brilliant.
Enough tracks to make one hell of a double album.

Better leave the magic of the original recordings untouched, imo.
The Stones are close to 75, come on. They are not better musicians than they were when the originals were recorded... There´s no use in re-recording those perfect tracks.

I think they should remake Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band.

Maybe then they can get out from under the shadow of the Beatles? Things were never the same after TSMR and Mick wearing the dunce cap on the cover.

Abbey Road...they've already rehearsed and performed "Come Together"..

There are several unreleased songs that are better than much of the particular album. Fiji Jim, Criss Cross, Get Yourself Together, Baby You're Too Much, Drift Away. They should (finish and) release them, but NOT re-record them.

Or they could do what The Who did -- put out a deluxe edition of an old album, but with new overdubs using the same equipment as on the original album, like guitars, amps, mic, etc.

Listen to the results they got adding new overdubs to the song My Generation:

The Stones could do the same with Satisfaction and others. Maybe even the Aftermath album.

Bit odd, but I think AfterMath would be fun................

There's a lot to be said for leaving the "perfect originals" alone.

Speaking for myself, I can't listen to some originals anymore.
Wild Horses, for example.

Now, that the band is older, in my opinion, you can hear the anguish in that song.
"Childhood living, is easy to do..."

Blue & Lonesome 2017 Edition
Blue & Lonesome 2018 Edition
Blue & Lonesome 2019 Edition
Blue & Lonesome 2020 Edition
Blue & Lonesome 2021 Edition
Blue & Lonesome 2012 Edition

Any and all would be fine with me

Peace,

IMO it doesn't matter if you getting older or how old you are..............my childhood living was easy to do...........

Dirty Work...that record is so bad they should burn it take it out of circulation and try it again....terrible....the worst. Undercover and Bridges would be 2nd, and third choices.

Satanic Majesties, just because I can't even imagine what it would sound like re-recorded in 2017.

Bad, bad idea. For Lucinda , I mean. I say this completely from own experience.

Ridiculous idea. And of course they'll never do it, it would be the musical, artistic and commercial equivalent of committing suicide.
