how to recover the CD key

Long time ago I purchased a game called HALO 2. I played it for a while and then discarded it. Lately that is few days back when I was trying to install the game they were asking for the CD key.But I lost the CD case.
So is there any way to recover the CD key? I have windows 7.And the time I played that game I had win vista.
