the day my life changed - first Stones show - opening night at MSG in NYC -

was the first time you saw them the most memorable for you?

Hate to say this...my first Stones show was on that tour at the Gator Bowl in Jacksonville FL. I was very disappointed, but it wasn't all the Stones fault. Sitting in the sun all day with 80.000 other stoned people waiting for them to go on -- the energy really dissipated. Also I was basing my expectations on films and recordings of the '69 and '72 tours. The show overall was fun but not mind boggling. It was the same when I saw them at MSG in '81 or '82. No intimacy or real energy and frankly they were a few notches down from the Mick Taylor years -- although I dig a lot of their recordings from this period.. But I feel that way about most big shows I've seen with a few exceptions. This is just my take and I am happy for anyone who feels differently!

My love for the Stones is based on their records and some live documents from their prime.

I remember them all.....what was so noteable about my first show though -21.5.1976 - which made it stand out, was, I dreamt the whole thing through again in technicolour as though I was there again - from HTW to Sympathy, dancing and all...that same night after I went to bed..........woke up exhausted but totally flying......................for days...........

Cleveland '78. Lousy venue. Last time the Stones were seen as some magical entity that appeared from some far away place called England. An energy level with Jagger I never saw in later concerts. No encore. The end of an era.

I have never felt so envious of anyone as I do you! The Doors and the Stones in such short order?!? Talk about seeing my two all time favorite bands!

Philadelphia, 1969. Seeing the Beatles in 1964 altered me as well. Seeing the Faces in London in 1971 had a profound effect.

i remember getting that program on the street in front of MSG in '75 - and seeing the shot from '72 on the cover and thinking "i'm part of it now - at 13 years old my eyes will be virgin no more - after tonight i will have seen them - that face on the program that in just a couple of years had become so iconic to me - he's in this building tonight - and somehow, some way, i'm here too"

My dad wouldn't let me go in 81, something about being too young......and for years, I couldn't pass by the Astrodome with a deep sense of regret.
But in 89, I finally saw them. There's just nothing like the first time.

Hi hbwriter. I first saw them a few days ahead of you in Toronto way back in June 1975. The whole city was pulsing with Stones' music and energy. We were from a small town in the Maritimes and were lucky to score $12 tickets - great seats too at the Maple Leaf Gardens.

"still trying to transfer it to my pc.The cassette tape keeps breaking"

Maybe you could join a site like this one [www.thetradersden.org] and get in touch with a specialist who'll transfer it for you. It's pretty common practice now.

Some "transferers" even now how to bake tapes to bring them to life!

July 25th 1972. First show. I was just a young kid who got lucky and scored tickets with a neighbor's older daughter (and no...I didn't score with her). We were dropped off outside the Garden and all I can remember is that it felt like I had entered an Alice-In-Wonderland world of glamour, danger, sex, and incredible carnal energy...but I don't remember anything specific because I was simply too young and overwhelmed with the simple act of being there...it was all a blur.

So I really consider my first Stones concert to be 3 years later in their Tour Of The Americas...and it started with the commotion caused by their promotional announcement of the tour in early May on the streets of New York. Rumors of this hit my High School and soon the rush was on to get tickets...it was almost impossible to find one, although 6 concerts (a record at the time) were announced for MSG in New York. Through a little help from my friends, luck, persistence and nights parked outside ticket offices I scored tickets for the 22nd and 26th of June, 1975. Nosebleed seats...but what the f*ck...

I felt like I had won the keys to the Kingdom.

Registration is free and open (unlike Dimeadozen which has a "numerus clausus" ) and TTD has a great forum which can be very helpful.

Good luck Ropeni, I really like that June 22 show.
