The only Stones song not to feature guitars?
Posted by: NickB ()
Date: April 15, 2011 02:25

I looked at the Lyndsey Buckingham thread and then played the original She Smiled Sweetly and realised that this must be the only Stones song not to feature a guitar (apart from the bass). Are there any others apart from remixes not to feature 5 or 6 strings?

according to Nico Zentgraf's site :

Line-up ‘She Smiled Sweetly’: MJ (voc, tamb)/KR (gtr, bass, p, org, bvoc)/CW (dr)

Cant imagine there are any released Stones songs with no guitars at all.

There are no guitars on the released song though, plus Keith might like to think he played all those instruments, but Mick has said otherwise.

We had a thread about this not too long ago, maybe better to unearth it?

If you listen to it there are no guitars apart from the bass. It has to be the Stones without apart from the interludes in Satanic?

by "not feature," do you mean not have any, or not have front and center?

Continental Drift? The first half of the Stripped version of Tumbling Dice, only piano, and the live part is an edit. So there is a full version somewhere with just piano.

The end of Dirty Work the piano boogie by Stu...

No song from Undercover includes what I called guitar, or the sound that should come from them in my vocabulary...

Continental Drift? ..

Keith is credited as playing guitar on it.

Magenta is spot-on about 'just wanna see his face' having no guitar part, though.

Lady Jane has bass. As does sing this altogether.

what is the only rolling stones song to feature a bucket?

Re: The only Stones song not to feature guitars?

Doesn't "New Faces" have Bass? Again, I am not where I can listen, but it seems I recall there being a very good bass sound as a matter off act.
"Continetal Drift" was also the song I wanted to name before "Just wanna see.." but I think Keith plays a guitar. he even talked about it.

I don't know but Continental Drift must be the only Rolling Stones song to feature a bicycle.

Nope, there's one mentioned at the end of Something Happened To Me Yesterday.

Presumably Keith played guitar when they performed 'She Smiled Sweetly' on "The Eamonn Andrews Show"? Does anyone have any photographic evidence?
