Love Is Strong - revisited

This came up on random play on my ipod today and I have to say, for me, this was the last true Stones song; it has it all, the sleaze, the raunch, the blues. Sounding better now than it did then!

One song that for some reason I tend to always write off...or want to skip over on the Ipod. But after a listen..I catch myself digging it.

Great album, though.

Love Is Strong has aged pretty well. Out Of Control is forced "Rawk".

Crumblin Mice:

I was watching this video you post:

How I miss them...

Almost 4 years since I saw them in London, August 21st 2007.

:-(

Always liked it. Not a great SONG per se, but a great track. Excellent guitar sound, lots of tight weaving (though I am sure much of that was achieved through editing), a great Jagger vocal and possibly the single most memorable harmonica lick he's eve done.

Plus, even at pushing 20 years old, it doesn't sound dated at all.

I've always liked the studio version, but I never thought it worked live - weedy guitars and Mick couldn't nail the vocals - it was soon dropped from a regular slot on the VL tour.

Definitely a keeper from the post-Wyman studio era. (And that aren't many). With this, and You Got Me Rocking they sounded like they had something to prove. Which was strange because most of the rest of the album is forgettable and redundant of past sounds.

OK, so the footage is out of sync with the audio, but this is tragic sad smiley

The song's promo video is probably my fave 'MTV' Stones.

Good track, good harp by MJ

My favorite post-Bill track.

One of my favorite later years Stones songs! I never get tired of it. But it was never quite pulled off well live I agree.

That's what we call "under-rehearsed."

Man..that was awful...Mick and Charlie carrying the band on their backs...maybe I don't wanna see another tour...

i always liked it, despite the stupid lyrics ... great track & love mick's singing (& harp, of course)

Agreed, it usually wasn't as good live, but it was just about the last single that didn't have a paint-by-numbers feel to it.

Another homoerotic Stones tune. Released on the 25th anniversary of the Stonewall uprising.

As usual we are completely split on this! I agree that to a certain point it doesn't work that well live but as someone noted, the video for the official release was a classic and the studio version is just soooo the Stones. Jagger's harp playing on the live clip is fantastic though!

Sometimes they just can't win. We like a bit of variety and risk taking in the set-list and then they get slagged off for it. It appears to me that the main problem with the Brno recording is that the guitars are too low in the mix. Obviously the Stones themselves thought it was a good enough version if the rollingstones.com tag is correct. Personally, I would have loved to have seen them perform this song live - good or bad version.

I like the slight hesitancy in the guitar-playing after the first '... we make a beautiful team'. It's as if Keith and Ronnie are both thinking about starting a solo, but then decide not to.

Great tempo, too.

The last great single they did and one of best tracks in 25 years. It has menace and a sense that something evil is coming along just around the corner. Great harp solo and guitar tones too.

That part always comes accross to me as 'we have no clue what to do here'. This track never developed any further than its demo stage.

Actually that 2007 version isnt that bad. I like the tempo, the guitars, Micks vocals are much better on this song than the war horses - they should have rehearsed it. Interesting song, easily the best of the 90s and their last really good song.

In that case, I assume you don't like 'I Go Wild' either. grinning smiley

The two have always sounded like sister-songs to me.
