He's a friend of Rik Mayall. In Mayall's autobiography, Bigger than @#$%& - Better than Christ, he affectionately refers to Hugh Laurie as Huge Lorry.

Here's a clip of Stephen Fry, Rik Mayall, and Hugh Laurie (the waiter) in Mayall's show The New Statesman (The Haltemprice Bunker; 1989).

According to this recent article, Hugh Laurie recently paid salute to Professor Longhair by performing the latter's entire LP Live On the Queen Mary. PBS will air the concert tribute starting on August 3, 2013 called HUGH LAURIE - LIVE ON THE QUEEN MARY. Check your local listings.

I'm a big fan. The guy's a triple threat - he also wrote a novel called The Gun Seller. It's a great read - hoping for more from him!

"Let them talk" is a good cd and dvd. Not a fan of his voice but he can sing and he can sure play both piano and guitar. I read once he's a big Stones and Who fan.

His 1st album was really pleasant.
The 2nd one isn't good. Skip it

The guy seems to be cool.

No: I think he's more into Wagner. He has written some books on music for Classic FM's publishing side.
