Probably Wembley Sept 8 1973. Got in for £2 and I remember being completely blown away by Gimme Shelter and especially the main song I wanted to hear, Midnight Rambler.

And I guess for personal reason the last night at Earls Ct May 76. I'd been at the dentist for major drilling work before the fitting of a crown and I was in the dentist's chair for an hour. An hour of fear that was eased by the knowledge that I was hopefully going to get in, somehow to the final show of the series. I'd been to 4 already, having only missed one when Jeff Beck played a secret gig with Jan Hammer and his Wired album band, supporting Alvin Lee at the Roundhouse.

Anyway, me and my best mate got to Earls Ct and got in for free. For those shows a security outfit called Sturico would, to cut down costs, ask volunteers to act as security/ushers in exchange for seeing the concert. You got a Sturico t-shirt and then were told which area to cover.

Through previous gigs I knew a girl who was working for Sturico and she let me and my mate in at 4pm and we walked to the roof of the building and listened while the Stones rehearsed a few numbers. We couldn't see them rehearse and it would have been far too dangerous to risk blowing our cover.

Anyway, we stayed up there until the gates opened and then walked down the stairs to merge with the crowd. As we had security t-shirts we bluffed our way down to the front of the arena. I had brought my camera and shot about 2 rolls of film. Some of those pix I've put up on this site previously.

If I remember correctly that night they played the only encore of the series - Sympathy For The Devil, bringing on circus entertainers who had been warming up the crowd in the auditorium at the start of the evening.

I love when they play can't you hear me knocking, but the best played song was Midnight Rambler in 2005 in San Diego and in 2007 in Lausanne (the Migros concert). You thought there is so much electricity in the air, that the wires are going to explode.

I could have gone and seen them in 1972 in Philly but didn't have enough cash to get a tix and train fare..

Fav song has to be IORR..Its a gas gas gas!

My first one: Helsinki '95. No other Stones concert will ever recapture the thrill I have for seeing my heroes for the first time. Having expected that for 14 years... I was scared will they disappoint me but hell no... I was in total heaven for the whole gig... especially I remember "Tumblin' Dice" making an incredible impact. It was wonderful to see what a huge live band the Stones is , and how well those songs I have listened for years worked live.

The experience was so thrilling that I even though I have two different bootlegs of that show, I haven't dared to listen them to not kill my memory. I never will
