Lotta love for Pete Doherty here, and Outkastt has a couple of places.

typical Brit-centric list, doesn't mean anything outside of the Isles, but of course these mags have such a wide circulation this gets noticed the world over. Good to see PJ Harvey get some love, though.

I've got a few of them maybe 12-15 I just flashed through the list, the only one I call one of my favourites is Gold by Ryan Adams oddly just at 40,I like the Strokes album but not that much .

Well, the Stones released only one studio album in this decade, and it was a lame one (IMHO), so it's not really a surprise.

Goddess in the Doorway, the live albums, plus the re-released Exile with new material. However, I am not sure where their idea of the decade begins and ends, whether they include 2010.

The Stones don't feature??? Are you surprised? C'mon, they haven't made a great album by their own high standards since Tattoo You. Keith's Talk Is Cheap and the latest Ronnie are better than any Stones album since 81.

This is the New Musical Expresss, here. This list is based on what they and their readers deem to be excellent. The paper is not aimed at the majority here. BTW, if this was a 1970 issue and it was concerning the top 100 albums of the 60's, then there would be plenty of the Stones. The mag doesn't dislike the group.

that's true, and then there's the whole world of rock music outside english speaking cultures... but it's ok, the americans invented it, and it's the only real World Music, the Brits got along for the ride by the grace of a (largely) common language, and since that brought us the Stones et al., I'm not complaining.
Just hoping people would ignore these lists, they're lazy page fillers anyway.

Thats about right. The Stones don't really cater for that sort of audience anymore. I bet many readers regard stories like 'I snort my dads ashes' and the size of Jaggers cock as simply sad!!

Perhaps, but these lists are of importance to readers of the NME and when I was a reader circa 2002-04, I found them vital. I discovered so much through their various lists, etc. The NME is only concerned with what's current - hence the new in the title.

I own 12 of the top-100. Numbers #1 and #2 are spot-on, IMO

Number 1 - I liked the Strokes first album. Uppermiddleclass/spoiled brat rock at it's best.

I don't know what Babyshambles or The Streets are doing there either. I thought that this list would be about 100 albums of great music?

They mention it in the first line...Jan 2000 - Dec 2009

(That would be Wandering Spirit.)

But its true about the Stones since TY. Though I would put Undercover as the last good album, TY the last great album and Some Girls as the last masterpiece.
Makes you wonder why we still wait for the next one.

I really think that Amy Winehouse's Back To Black should be in the top 10. It has lots of great retro soul but her voice has it's own distinct character. The songs are good and the lyrics heartfelt plus it was popular across the world.

To be fair though, this is the decade that I discovered the Stones so to speak so for the last few years I've been mostly listening to them.

The Amy Winehouse album is a good one, Love is a Losing Game is superb.
