So the King of Rock and Soul is dead.

I'm sorry for him, and perhaps even more sorry to see another artist that I loved suddenly gone.

An entire musical world is, one by one, fading away.

That the problem if you getting older and older, I remember my parents complaining that a lot of people around them died famous or not famous.

A gross loss indeed - but why rest in peace? There is no heaven and a dead man won't find anything. No, just live forever, Solomon, on my turntable, in my CD player and on my hard disk. Sure one of the finest soul voices in the 1960s, accidentally two weeks ago I enjoyed listening to Burkes albums "A change is gonna come" and "Love trap" from 1986 and 1987. Thank you for the music!

thank you for this wisdom, religious trolling on such occasion is terribly stupid.

Here are two songs he recorded last year with Dutch band 'De Dijk'. They are translations into English from their originals in Dutch:

My lovely bride and I were lucky enough to see him at New Orleans Jazzfest either last year or the year before closing a second Thursday afternoon at the Congo Square stage. What a marvelous set! I'll never forget it, that voice. Even in a wheelchair, he commanded AUTHORITY!

At least he went out on the way to a gig, a soul singer with total command right to the end! And he had a GREAT second act in the years before his departure.

All hail the King of Rock 'n' Soul! Mourn his passing, celebrate his work.

SOLOMON BURKE & DE DIJK
a home coming celebration
dinsdag 12 oktober 2010

Aanvang concert: 20.30 uur
