Kings of Leon - Come around sundown

I haven't heard a sufficient number of albums to determine which one might be deemed the best but so far High Violet by The National sounds to me like the most exciting and rewarding album to come out in 2010.

When I started this thread it was September. Now with 6 weeks of the year to go I guess all the worthwhile albums that are going to get released in 2010 have been released. So let's have your definitive list for the whole year.

Here's mine.

1. Los Lobos - Tin Can Trust. Almost up there with the immortal Kiko
2. Neil Young - Le Noise. - Best thing he's done since Sleeps With Angels
3. Teenage Fanclub - Shadows. Totally understated work of melodic brilliance.
4. Ronnie Wood - I Feel Like Playing. Best album since his first and best album by a Stone/the Stones since Talk Is Cheap and Tattoo You.
5. Tom Petty - Mojo. Great American rock the way it should be played.
6. Tame Impalas - Innerspeaker. Dreamy new psychedelia.
7. Paul Weller - Wake Up The Nation. All over the shop but what great songs.
8. The Duke And The King - Long Live The Duke And The King. Gram meets The Band in Memphis.
9. Tom Jones - Praise & Blame. Fire and Brimstone gospel howling blues.
10. John Grant - Queen Of Denmark. Spooky singer songwriter sweetness with dark undertones.

Brian Eno - Small Craft On A Milk Sea

my updated top 10:

1 accept- blood of the nations : wow these guys hit it out of the park. I never really followed this band but now I’d kill to see them live
2 ratt- infestation :had little hope for this album and it blew me away
3 jeff beck- emotion and commotion :beck godlike as always
4 overkill- ironbound :not a huge fan of the band but one of the best new releases from an older thrash band
5 black country communion- self titled : this is how a supergroup should do it. has a very deep purple meets zeppelin groove. Much better than chickenfoots first album
6 flotsam and jetsam- the cold : their best since cuatro. This year seemed to be big for more underground 80’s metal acts releasing good albums.
7 tom petty-mojo : Most of the songs have an allman brothers feel. nice bluesy album
8 black label society- order of the black: for me this is BLS 4th best album
9 nevermore- obsidian conspiracy : wow the five year wait was worth it. great vocals
10 muderdolls- women and children last: Wednesday 13 keeps his winning streak going with another great release. This one is more metal than the first murderdolls album.

DAVE RAWLINGS MACHINE - A friend Of A friend!

MEAT PUPPETS - SEWN TOGETHER

GROUP DOUEH - GUITAR MUSIC OF THE SAHARA DESERT

13th FLOOR ELEVATORS - SIGN OF THE 3 EYED MEN BOX

THE WHO AMAZING JOURNEY DVD (which is not an album, but new great albums were in short supply this year).

Biggest Disappointment? The continual thoughtless pillaging and plundering of the HENDRIX catalog. Someone do something quick!

Good, because someone has to buy that stuff I guess.

DO you remember in the 70's when Alan Douglas had a similar reign over the Hendrix vaults? Such non-albums like Crash Landing, Midnight Lightning, etc?

This I find similar, only this is his step sister doing the work here now- and to what artistic end is my question. I, for whatever my little bitty opinion is worth, find them subpar.

Although, I always thought Douglas's "WAR HEROES" comp was actually pretty good.

alan douglas took the sessions for the final hendix album and released them as shorter albums stretching it out to almost 3 albums. the stuff now is demo's and unfinished takes and its marketed as such

2010 is not over yet...so I reserve the right to keep one slot open in my Top Ten of 2010:

Bryan Ferry - Olympia
Kayne West - My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy
Massive Attack - Heligoland
LCD Soundsystem - This Is Happening
Janelle Monae - ArchAndroid
Ronnie Wood - I Feel Like Playing
Bruce Springsteen - The Promise
Faithless - The Dance
Dennis Wilson - Pacific Ocean Blue (re-discovered this Gem from the 1970's...a masterpiece)

Valleys of Neptune should've received the same treatment. We can agree to disagree, but, to me, there are better bootlegs.

So far nobody wrote about the 2010 masterpiece:

THE UNION
Elton John + Leon Russel

I was in NYC a couple of weeks ago, and I checked the NY Times to see what was going around that evening (October 19th).

Elton John + Leon Russell at the Beacon Theatre

Sweet I thought, nice place to play.
I kind of remembered the name of Leon Russel but not exactly knowing where from....

I bought The Rolling Stone magazine and read a review about this project and who Leon Russell is, and what he did in the 70´s and was quite forgotten soon after.

I flew to Vancouver a couple of days later, and the decided to enter an HMV store and gave the CD a listening...

I was amazed by the quality: How damn good the music sounded, recorded live in studio: R&B, soul, gospel, country, pop and rock!!

Beside these two guys on piano, they have a group of fantastic musicians playing with them:
T-Bone Burnett: Producer
Jim Keltner: Drums
Marc Ribot: Guitars
Neil Young: Some very nice vocals
Brian Wilson: Coral arrangements
Don Was: bass on 2 songs

The great album of 2010!!

And believe me, I was never a huge fan of Elton John

Intriguer by Crowded House. It's amazing. After a few plays it will worm it's way into your subconscious.
Definetly this. Amazing album, getting better with every listen I'm finding - and it was great on the first listen!

I'm with Marquess, THE UNION, Elton John and Leon Russell. Leon Russell over the last 40 years, has been one of the bluesiest, musically talented, singer-songwriters to grace the industry.

Honorable Mention to Peter Wolf's MIDNIGHT SOUVENIRS.

"Take all the pain...It's yours anyway"

New decade years = bad albums years...what good albums do you have from 1960-1970-1980-1990-2000 or 2010? I haven't bougt a single one from 2010, only older stuff...

I love this album - it just didn't make my final 10 of the year. I saw the concert at the Roundhouse in London and it was a great show. The track Gone To Shiloh is immense and one of either artist's best ever.

Yes! Grinderman 2 is fantastic! Dark, brooding, twisted rock. Once in the Cave, you will never get out.
