OT: IORRers favourite works of art
Posted by: Silver Dagger ()
Date: July 16, 2010 15:51

Well the World Cup’s over and there ain’t new Stones product or activity to rave about so I got the idea to find out IORR’s favourite works of art.

I was inspired by Carlitos putting up a famous picture by Valazquez in our long running World Cup thread which brought a response from someone else who put up another great work of art.

BTW - does anybody know if any of the Stones – besides Ronnie – are great art lovers?

Anyway, here’s one of my favourites, The Mulberry Tree by Van Gogh, which seems to have inspired one called Abstract Tree by Ronnie Wood, below it.

Love Van Gogh and the Impressionists. Most of the Renaissance guys too. Not too crazy about modern stuff.

It's by the Autrian painter Egon Schiele named Zwei Frauen (2 women) and was painted in 1915 3 years before his too early death!

It's by Samir Malik it's Arabian and says Hadj/haqq truth, it's my next project when I can effort it! (again a reprint before I get busted by the people collecting Stones vinyl etc. at humangous prices spinning smiley sticking its tongue out)

Great idea for a thread Silver Dagger... Here is a painting by an Australian painter named Sidney Nolan. It is from a very famous series of 27 paintings on the outlaw Ned Kelly. Unfortunately it is a cliche in Australia these days to say you like these paintings, but I have always loved them in a very personal way. They depict our environment beautifully and celebrate the rebellious spirit in all of us, IMO.

Yes M.C. EScher is awesome. Did you know Hansie, that apparently Mick Jagger asked Escher to create the album cover for "Let It Bleed" but Escher declined... you probably know this already

I have always loved Marcel Duchamp's "Nude Descending a Staircase", I think it is beautiful and very erotic

It's also really trippy. Never seen that before but thanks for putting it up in the 'IORR gallery' bolexman.

Some beautiful paintings! I've made a Jigsaw Puzzle from the Renoir, posted by Elmo Lewis. Also one of the Nightwatch of Rembrandt (a dark version of it, extremely difficult!). Many years ago. So if I listen to that song I always think of those paintings, also of a couple of Van Goghs.

BTW: Great painting Silver Dagger, never saw it before (at least I don't remember).
I have to look for one of my favourites yet.

Both very nice (the "modern" and this). Reminds me a bit about the sublime work of Shiri Nessat (wrong spelling).

Hope I'm not out of line. I'm working on a series of paintings on live music, small venues, this is one I finished recently. its called 'Nightclub'.

I love all the artists mentioned before, especially Rembrandt, Turner, Sargent, And Van Gogh. Monet is another favorite.

Great pics Max, I've seen one of them (he has painted countless versions) in the Monet Museum in Paris, one of the finest museums I ever visited. Not only because of the great paintings, but also because of the atmosphere of that museum and the nice environment (quartier).

You really have to visit Europe once, the Netherlands of course and France, which is probably the most beautiful country on earth.
