After Charlie, my absolute favourite is Ginger Baker, got to admire the force of the man!

I also like Kenny Jones, Graham Broad and Abe Laboriel Jr.

I've never seen the hype with Monnie and Bonham, I've got to agree with Ging they don't swing very well in my opinion.

I have seen so many incredible names mentioned in this thread.
Pete Thomas. Bun E. Carlos; Keltner and Gordon from 60's and 70's; Taylor Hawkins from the new class; I prefer him to Grohl. Al Jackson, Sly Dunbar, Gorman. Clem Burke and Ian Paice.

Watts and the Stones have been my favorite band all my life. However I don 't think it is one bit contradictory to also love drummers of a different type of music. Like Collins from Genesis e.g. Can't stand him as solo artists or singer. Genesis w/o Gabriel was something awful. but he was a fabtastic drummer in the previous incarnation.

I can't believe people have listed Ringo! He was a piss poor drummer, by any standards.

Many professional drummers have praised him and rightly so. He is not flash like Keith Moon and Carl Palmer or bombastic like John Bonham, (they are all superb drummers btw), but he puts exactly the right thing in the right place and is also very creative. Listen to Come Together or Day In The Life - they immediately spring to mind though there are any number of examples. His brilliance is subtle rather than in your face and it surprises me that anyone who appreciates Charlie Watts, (I'm only assuming you do of course), doesn't see that.

My favourites are, in no order:
