I can't believe people have listed Ringo! He was a piss poor drummer, by any standards.
Many professional drummers have praised him and rightly so. He is not flash like Keith Moon and Carl Palmer or bombastic like John Bonham, (they are all superb drummers btw), but he puts exactly the right thing in the right place and is also very creative. Listen to Come Together or Day In The Life - they immediately spring to mind though there are any number of examples. His brilliance is subtle rather than in your face and it surprises me that anyone who appreciates Charlie Watts, (I'm only assuming you do of course), doesn't see that.
