Why are threads deleted?
Posted by: 71Tele ()

There were some perfectly good and spirited debates here recently in which the threads mysteriously disappeared - I don't mean the stuff posted by that idiot troll. Why does this happen? What is the problem with people having a good discussion? Hint - it seems to happen when certain current and past Rolling Stones guitarists are compared. I just don't understand the aversion to free speech on this topic, whatever point of view one is advocating.

Which threads? I have never known you to post a thread not at least worth SOME discussion.

<< Which threads? I have never known you to post a thread not at least worth SOME discussion. >>

Well, my first one I ever posted when I first joined for example. In my innocence I did not realize that discussions of Woody vs. Mick Taylor were somehow forbidden, and the moderator closed down the discussion. My bad, I guess on that one. There was another one today someone else started along similar lines that disappeared. I was just curious of the rules of the road here...

That´s something special...

Bjornulf pointed out recently if threads or the posts within are marked
with the "report this message" and reported to him by a certain amount thread in question is gonna be closed or deleted.

Questionable ?
Maybe,so after all it was you and me...

( Although I´d like to stress the fact I never touched this damned button !
Some of us must like to be the board police on the other hand - with questionable
results as well from time to time...and I´m not refering to the troll machine. )

see [www.iorr.org] for the forum policies.
as far as i understand it "campaigns" includes posting the same negative opinions repeatedly.
(by the way, the constitutional right to "free speech" doesn't apply to private space, which is what iorr is.)

Concerning "private platform" : might be,but it´s visible and accessable to
everyone with an Internet connection without a problem...so it´s public.

( Of course nothing to do with some kind of "constitutional rights",differs
more or less from country to country,anyway...)

different use of the term, shortfatfanny.
"the right to free speech" (where it exists) means a government can't imprison you for saying what you think in your own space.
it doesn't mean a host can't stop a conversation he doesn't want going on in his living room.

Shouldn't be a surprise for you that this is forum policy. Take it or leave it.

No disagreement about that,with sssoul.
Just thought freedom of speech includes not only own but public places ( spaces ) as well...

Well, a public forum on the internet isn´t exactly comparable with your living room, is it?

>> Well, a public forum on the internet isn´t exactly comparable with your living room, is it? <<

yes, it is. iorr is a private site, not a government-sponsored tax-supported site -
and even government-sponsored tax-supported sites can have moderators and rules.
the "right to free speech" means we can create our own private space to say what we want,
not that every space in the world has to tolerate whatever anyone feels like blaring out.

The difference is that I don´t have to throw people out of my living room who doesn´t belong there. Bv has to do that frequently, because anyone can enter this "room" and cause some damage before they are thrown out. Therefore I think the word private doesn´t fit here. If it really was private you would have to introduce yourself and your purpose before posting.

It is One Volk (The Stones fans all over the world), One Reich ("Tell Me" of IORR), and One Fuhrer (BV).

- Doxa

I formally protest, Doxa, please cut this out.

You've made this thread a political and controversial one. Seems you've landed on the wrong board.

- How dare you use Nazi diction on this platform. What do you think where you are? Is this a Nazi forum?

- How dare you compare the Stones fans all over the world to the Fuhrer's Nazi Volk?

- How dare you compare bv to the greatest mass murderer and malefactor in human history?

And by no means this behaviour can be relativised or even excused by calling it a joke.

I do not want to be included in your comparison, which I consider a grave insult to all Stones fans.

I am a Stones "fan" (don't like that word much), but I don't belong to the One Volk. And I don't want to.

I am on and off active in Tell Me, but I don't consider the forum as the One Reich.

And I don't have a Fuhrer and I don't need one. And I find it heavy to compare bv to that character.

Finally, to use your terminology, I believe that what we need the least on this board is Kadavergehorsam (slavish obedience). We have already had that in certain regions of the world during certain periods. No need for a revival.

In a post chiding others for overusing heavy words, to then throw around terms like "Fuhrer" and "Volk" and "Reich" for this board is unfortunate. Might have been a slip-up. Would be good to remove.

Guess it's time for Keith to lose his "Gruppenfuhrer-t-shirt" too?

Doxa didn't mean to cause harm with his post.

Think of IORR as a really great bar. Anyone can drop in and relax, have a drink and sound off about their favourite band - hopefully the Stones - check out some great videos, enjoy the repartee but don't get too drunk and pick a fight otherwise you'll get thrown out.

Well, my post seemed to be more controversial as I intended it to be.

I will delate it if the pressure comes stronger, to be politically correct, and not to offend anyone, but before that I try to explain the point of it:

I gave a counter-example of the stupidity of using Big Political words in describing the actions in one internet discussion board. Seemingly the words I used hit the point too hard - to the kind of impression I got from hearing the demand of for "free speech", etc. I seemingluy used too harsh terminology.

But I still stand behind my words that if you cannot take that as a joke, that's too bad. The question is not really comparing, but riduculing the idea of making such translations into political vocabulary. And I thought everyone understands the extreme idiocy of the vocabulary I used. I thought that my example is so far-out that my point can be seen. I couldn't expect that people will take that literally and personally. The idea of trying to capture the political ideals - be they anything - into a discussion board ruled by one person is my target. I could you also you terms like "bad people", "hell" and "lucifer" but those are kind of lame, aren't they? This is just a discussion board, for god sake. How seriously one is taking it? Maybe I will get the faith of Baboon Bro soon - I can only guess the amount of "report this message" going to BV, but, in that case, to quote Keith Richards, "shit happens".

Well, seemingly my original post is delated by the moderator, so I didn't need to think any longer to do that or not...

But I hope that the messages that have quoted a part of my original message will be removed too - it is a bit unfair if only one sentence or phrase is taken out of the context.

I am sorry if I offend anyone. I should have known better.

Please listen to with sssoul on this one -- she is correct on the law. No individual (at least one that's not supported with public funds) has any obligation to allow free speech. Period. Get over it.

Perhaps the George Michael Forum or the Lez Zeppelin forum will allow you to speak freely there.

The thing that amazes me is that a certain few here seem to view their criticism of the band as the product of a holy revelation that the world needs to hear. In fact, none of these thoughts is original or insightful. Go start a "We Want to Trash the Rolling Stones for the Same Things Over and Over" Board.

Some of you guys (like Doxa and Tele) are critical, but not always, and are reasonably thoughtful about their comments. I'm not talking about you -- I enjoy your posts, not that it matters.
