I was thinking today as I was listening to Flashpoint + Collectibles,

I have never heard the Winning Ugly New York Mix. I know I am probably not missing much but im curious. Is it any good at all?

You're missing nothing. Stick to the original.

Is that the one only available on the Canadian 12"? I suppose the answer depends upon your interest in Stones remixes; I paid more for it than I care to admit. Do I regret the purchase? NO!

Winning Ugly is far from one of the two worst songs they've ever done. Something Happened To Me Yesterday,Gomper,& Dear Doctor come to mind right away as being far worse than Winning Ugly which, unlike the other songs that I mentioned,at least has good rythm.

I Go Wild = trademark Stones - drums, guitars coming together to make a great rock track.

Rock And A Hard Place is their worst, followed by Angie and Ruby Tuesday and Winning Ugly is 4th in my book.

As of today anyway. The remix is...I dunno. I'd rather be able to get the remix of One Hit than this one.

I agree Rock and A Hard Place is their worst, but let's not forget Sex Drive!!!

I've always like Winning Ugly, even though it is rather un-stones like.

until winning ugly and back to zero came along, i never really thought i'd hear a stones song that would make me ill

I woudn't say it's the 'worst' song they've ever done, but I would claim it to be the second worst after 'Back to Zero'.

Listening to Winning Ugly is like stepping in something unpleasant. It actually got a fair amount of radio play on my local rock station the summer of '86.

Utter tripe.

Oh, I'm counting 12 comments and nobody has yet mentioned the connection to Chuck Leavell... Do me a favour and don't turn this thread into another anti-Chuck-thread. Or I'm calling my We-teach-Mick-Taylor-keyboards-to-replace-Chuck friends to join the discussion!

You can not be a Stones fan if you don't like Ruby Tuesday or Angie... or I assume you are under age of 30 and missed the best periods of Stones classics.

"till the next time..."

I like the Dirty Work album overall, but Winning Ugly is an awful song.

1 comment, yes, and hopefully the last comment as I would defend Chuck.

I'd like to nominate Suck On the Jugular as the worst Stones song, or at least a contender. It sounds excruciating in parts, out of tune or what.

Also, Laugh I Nearly Died is almost a barn-storming classic but has a recurring dissonance that takes the shine off an otherwise wonderful treat.

I won't go into the occasional appalling lyrical lapses of our hero Mr Jagger ("got the shits" in Sweet Neocon, or "bat out of hell" in otherwise sound Rough Justice).

Sweet Neocon has got to be the worst track ever by the stones.....

I'd wager you've never even heard the remix he's asking about.

Simple as that. I personally think Winning Ugly is a decent song and that
goes for Sweet Neo Con too. I would certainly not mind if these tunes were
to be played during the usually warhorse filled second part of Stones concerts of today.

Winning Ugly is the weakest track on their weakest album, what were they thinking, when they put that one on the album ? " Well, hell we have put "Back to Zero" on it, why don't put this as well ?

EH, to each his own -- I'd say "My Girl" is the weakest track on their weakest album...

Winning Ugly has just about the best bass line since Sympathy (or perhaps Miss You). It has great Keith lead guitar. It has a lovely scratchy rhythm guitar. It romps along with fantastic energy and gusto. Some superb and topical lyrics. Off the cuff, spontaneous stuff - AND superb musicianship.

And most of you think it's lame?

Lame is cliched, Stones by rote. Much of Undercover. Much of Voodoo Lounge.

Winning Ugly dares to be different. (As does Back to Zero).

I am able to enjoy the guitar playing on both Winning Ugly (Keith) and Back To Zero (Keith and Womack). But the songs are not very good. Worst ever? No!

Gomper
I'd Much Rather Be With The Boys
Indian Girl
Suck On The Jugular

are much worse, imo.
