Most people are aware that Tiger is the best player on the planet, and that he has a an incredibly graceful and efficient swing and the tremendous physical tools to match. But what seperates him is his mental toughness. He wants to get ahead and then increase his lead. He plays to win. He's the ultimate competitor. He wants to kill you.

But now I think he's got a problem. In the past he was able to shut everything out mentally (tv, the gallery, expectations, etc.) and focus on the shot at hand and just play golf. But I'm just not convinced he can do that now. That task just got a little more complicated. They say the most important part of golf is the 6" between your ears. Good luck Eldrick.

The biggest news for the fans is that he says that he will not rule out playing golf in 2010.

Ahhhhh. So he trumps the Stones! Since they won't really confirm anything about touring in '010 according to some people here.

Personally, what he does is what he does and it means nothing to me. I'm just stunned that he lives in Orlando.

The bigger question for me is why the public is so willing to buy into the image of athletes and entertainers, and then is so shocked and disappointed when these people don't live up to the image, which was manufactured in the first place. Look at baseball. All those years when balls were suddenly flying out of parks and even mediocre hitters were hitting 40 home runs a year, everyone was willing to suspend disbelief. People were wrapped up in the phony "home run race". Players, owners and corporate sponsors were raking in cash. Almost nobody questioned the strangeness of this sudden home run explosion. Barry Bonds' shoe size goes up three sizes and his neck and head get as big as a watermelon and nobody asks why? Of course all these guys were doping. Now we all know it was a fraud and people are down on Mark McGwire and these other cheaters, acting as if their hearts were broken.

Likewise Tiger Woods. The image created was just that - an image. Who really knows this person? Yet millions of pairs of shoes, or other products were sold because people bought into the image (again, manufactured) of this squeaky clean superman. And now these same people are disappointed. He wasn't like the image. Boo f'n hoo. I'm wringing my hands.

Athletes and entertainers are very talented people at what they do. NOTHING MORE. Why are we so shocked when we find out that they are as petty, greedy, horny, or flawed as the rest of us? We need to grow up and stop needing athletes to be anything more than good athletes. If Tiger had said at the beginning "My only obligation to the public is how I play golf, my private life is off-limits", people would have respected that, and he'd be in better shape now. But no, he wanted all those corporate deals (or his agents and business managers told him he should want it), so he had to live a lie, and now he's in trouble.

Having said that, Tiger could have gotten almost any woman he wanted. But instead he seems to have had himself quite a skankfest. Waitresses, "hostesses" and other parasitic celebrity hangers-on seem to have been his type. What a waste.

He is human and imagine if you had a big blow out with a loved one and then were forced to go on national TV to "apologize" for being human. With human faults, warts and all, apologizing to millions of strangers. "christ you know it aint easy!" He handled it with dignity and humility in a way that most couldn't even fathom. And yet there are still media hacks, sports fanatics, and board house wives/husbands clamoring for the blood sport. Shame on us all. Heal and rest your soul in peace however suites you best Tiger. So what? That's all I ask. So what? I don't care about his personal life and am loath to judge him least I be judged. Again, who are we to look at someone's historical faults and personal struggles and judge. I just know I am not perfect and don't want to judge someone else. But it seems like a lot of people in the world like going around thinking they are perfect and judging others. We know nothing of the man's personal struggles that led him to make the shitty choices he made. There is no denying that. But again, who among us hasn't had our own moral dilemmas and battles, yet I know I would feel violated and very challenged if I had to live my life in the public eye of commercial perfection.

As the man said, in France they take a different attitude. It is almost a given that a man will take a mistress and all parties know and abide by the rules - discretion being the most important. Having an affair is a game for grown-ups.

My problem with the States is the hypocrisy. Most of the businessmen whose companies have been sponsoring Woods over the years will be having their own little sideshows but have to condemn him for the sake of appearances. Just as in the Clinton/Lewinski case, many women over there would have blown him for nothing and kept quiet about it, they were outwardly outraged but inwardly just cross with the girl for her indiscretion not with him for getting some.

We have gone beyond the Warhol 15 minute thing. Some people don't want to work for a living, they want to find a celeb to sleep with and sell the story. This is unforgiveable. Neither Woods or Clinton outed themselves, it was made public on the woman's instigation then all the others came out of the woodwork.

Yup good post Elmo. Again the rush to judge others and not understand the human nature of making mistakes. In my life I have yet to meet a perfect human, yet often meet those who like to judge others.

I had to laugh so hard at that report [www.theonion.com]

What I find really strange is that advertisers pay these guys so much - are Americans really that crazy to buy anything that is being advertised by someone like Tiger ?

I don't even know which products he plugged ...

sorry but i don´t understand all that sick human being, mistakes, not perfect shit.

is a man who sleeps with one woman perfect, free of mistakes and normal???

and a man who has more than one is sick, made a mistake or isn´t perfect??

that´s rubbish, if at all it is vise versa.

the guys who get all of the girls are the ones who are at least closest possible to perfect.

it is the ones who are not perfect who can be happy if they find one girl they can marry. than just because they have no choice they try to make everyone believe how good people they are that they only sleep with one girl.
as if that was there choice and not their destiny, because of being nowhere near perfect or attractiv to women.

there ain´t no monogamous man! nowhere!

the sick one is the one who forces himself consciousley or because of false morals and society to live monogam against his subconscious nature of being not monogam. that is the sick person!

And like I said, folks shouldn't be so quick to judge others.

A complete debacle. He got a thrill cheating on his wife. He's not the first and won't be the last. The marriage is over and that is the price he has to pay. Man up. be a Dad to your kids the best you can. This public castration is pathetic. There are clinics for this? What's the point? She's gone, man. Why wouldn't she be? If she returned, she'd be pathetic. And she'd have a husband with no balls. Live and learn, Tiger.

There must be some pharmaceutical that can make some money of this. Anti-viagra? Wife-only viagra?

Exactly. Who needs sex rehab? Keep it in your pants and don't cheat on your wife. End of rehab. If 1 hot blonde isn't enough to satisfy you,you should'nt be married in the first place.

There is an entire "rehab industry" that exists primarily for the celebrity class. There is no more "bad behavior", only "addiction". Celebrities go to rehab. The rest of us have to deal with the consequences of our bad choices and stupidity.

Could I just comment - Who the Fu** cares??? This is the problem with society in general we seem to be more concerned with what Tiger Woods does than what Obama or any of the politicians or the earthquake in Haiti. What Tiger did is between him and his wife and family. Yes, he has endorsed so called "family" types of products so if those companies have a problem with his image then dump him! The guy obviously should not have gotten married but it is none of our business what he does off the golf course as long is it is legal.

I suppose the point being made is that it is made our business because the Tiger Woods Industry made a carefully-crafted icon of him as a squeaky-clean family man perfectionist, and then sold that image. It's only a problem for the people who foolishly bought the "product".
