Mathijs and wild horse pete,

Please write in English, so that everyone can understand what you say. The essence of what you say is: "Kleermaker, don't be such a bore, calm down please, you're here for only 7 weeks" (Mathijs) and "Mathijs, take it easy, you better ignore this little person." (wild horse pete). It's a somewhat free translation but an adequate one I think. Maybe others can profit by your well meant advise, w h pete.

i think jagger and richards are singing slightyly different lyrics in certain parts of the song.

jagger is definitely singing cut, but i hear an "n" in keith's backgroud vox. elsewhere i think jagger sings "time on hand" and richards "time off hand" and in the opening verses mick sings "skip rope" but keith sounds like he is singing "slit throat."

wonder if anyone else hears each of them possibly singing slightly different lyrics.

I see the song as one half of a rumination on gambling as a metaphor for life. "Casino Boogie" warns us that love and justice are all part of a crooked system, that we can't beat. But, we are all thrill freaks, willing to throw good money after bad.

The Dietrich movie is probably "Rancho Notirious", a film that revolves around the phrase "Chuck-a-luck". It too is a story of gambling gone wrong.

The other side of gaming can be found in the next song, "Tumbling Dice". Here it doesn't matter what's in the cards. The deuce is still wild, so we might as well ride fortune's wheel in style.

Wanna bet ?

Show it to me, baby.

It's up to you .

I've shown it already but you didn't 'see' it.

I have a great sense of humour -where is yours ? The evidence is that I am still waiting to talk about Nijmegen with you tongue sticking out smiley

I'm glad you have! Mine was absent for a little while, after you said "BTW,do you know what you're talking about ?", without any explanation.

Anyway, very kind of you, willing to talk about my city of birth, which is originally an old Roman oppidum, called Noviomagum. Noviomagum > Nimwegen > Nijmegen. Incidentally I've been in its neighbourhood 3 days ago, but I unfortunately didn't have time to pay a little visit to it. Had to hurry back in the direction of Rotterdam, another Dutch city where the Stones once played. Well, another city and another band, actually. The best ever. Of course with master Taylor in itcool smiley. Boy, I still hear him play in my head. Unbelievable!

Nice philosophical explanation. But what the f has happened to those great philosophers/songwriters after EOMS? They adapted to a trendy NYC-style and wrote SG etc! What a decline.

My remark concerned the spelling of Cannes IN ENGLISH ,and I wrote " do you know what you're talking about" because I thought that may be you were able to speak some French ,and knew that we don't pronounce the "s" at the end of Cannes.
No big deal winking smiley

BTW, did you take some photos at Taylor's gig?
I'd love to see them .
A buddy of mine saw him recently in France and he said it was awesome.
I am so jealous because I never saw Mick Taylor on live, neither with the Stones, nor by his own.
Next time he gives a concert near my hometown,I'll go.
Even if my heart belongs to Ronnie, because he was with the Stones the 1st time I saw them live .....

SwayStones, I never heard Taylor without the Stones, only with them all, in 1973. But I still remember how great that concert was and how wonderful Taylor played. He really was the king of the whole show. Unforgettable. I couldn't take any pictures, I was a poor student then, only 18 years old at that time. But there are some DVD's from that time which I could download thanks to IORR. I would advise you to download the Dutch radiotapes from IORR. You can hear Taylor play on acoustic guitar and he sings rather well. Yesterday my daughter was here (she's studying and living in another city) and she heard him do Dead Flowers and she made a very sharp remark: "Well, that sounds a bit like country music", she said. And that was very to the point. She liked his voice more than Mick's cool smiley. Here's the link, download it and listen with your earphones plugged in. Throw away the tuning parts and listen to the (pieces of) songs and improvisations he did in 2001. Without having rehearsed. Then maybe you hear something of the incredible soul this man has as a musician. Only a bit is enough. The interview (about 17 minutes) is interesting as well.

Here's the link. Enjoy, mon ami!

Your Dutch is pure poetry, pure art!

PS: in the guitar players' thread I said and asked:

"So you're a musician as well. No wonder you like MT's playing!

It would be interesting to know more about in which context and what music you play, but that's of course too much asked.

Btw: do you know your colleague Martin Kaaij?"

You don't have to answer of course, but if you do, please, do it in your marvellous Dutch. You've enriched our language!

No M. SwayStones, I don't think that, but my wife doesn't permit me to talk with (strange) women, even not on the internet and regardless of their country. But don't assume that I'm possibly unfaithful, because I've never been and never will be. Actually I'm an utterly decent and dull kind of person and not "a little scary" as Mathijs thinks. So now you understand it, and my name isn't Rutger. But you can easily keep on guessing. If one of your guesses is right I'll tell you.

Well, did you download the acoustic Mick Taylor? After having listened carefully you'll forget that Ron Wood person and the only thing you want yet is downloading and collecting as much Stones-Taylor stuff as possible and you'll even consider to change your nickname into TaylorStones. Wanna bet?

PS: After all it must be Kissing, cutting cane, like Vox12string says. Forget Cannes, forget le/la Côte d'Azur. It has something to do with s/m. Very scary, those Glimmers!

I didn't downloaded "MT acoustic" or whatever and I won't .

The only links I download are the ones that come from Mr Urban Steel or very well knowed posters from IORR grinning smiley

BTW, I don't get what you're talking about ....
I hope you're kidding with bringing your "wife" here........and your unfaithful behaviour ..You should be ashamed ,
(in French :"tu es complètement à côté de la plaque ....c'est tout ce que tu as trouvé ??)

I am going to call bv for this offense.

And ,of course,it's obvious you couldn't get " My heart belongs to Ronnie "
I am not surprised .......
In French we say " Trop poli pour être honnête "

I'am a guitar teacher (studied Jazz in Rotterdam),but started playing Stones at 10.
I work as a free lance guitarplayer for several bands, from Rock ,fusion and Jazz.
My first inspiration was (and still is winking smiley )Taylor, and Richards(more or less)
But at the age of 16 I got more interested in players like Al DiMeola, McLaughlin, Allan Holdsworth. Lots of email contact with Barry Finnerty (Brecker Brothers) and Steve Hunter (Lou Reed) cause I was lucky enough to talk to them after gigs and became cyber friends. But I still am a passionate Stones area '63 -Bl&Bl fan, and my posts on iorr are countless and ..rubbish many times.confused smiley
