OT: Concerts you are embarassed to admit to have been to...

Reading the contrasting experiences Andy Js had going to see the Police and Prince recently made me think of the concerts I have been to willingly which I am now embarassed to admit to have been at. Mine has to be going to see Dire Straits twice in 1985 - the most boring 3 hours of my life. Whats yours?

I saw MC Hammer TWICE! I had free tickets and went the first night cuz I had nothing to do. It was so much fun I went again the next night too! Seriously - it was a great show, so much energy watching all those dancers bustin it.

Now I do know that this guy is held in very high regard by some, but I walked out of a Jeff Beck show at the Shepherds Bush Empire some years ago. I was bored senseless.

Hmmm, the only one that I'm a little embarassed to admit to having been to is The Corrs, back in 1999. It was actually a good show, but not very 'cool' to admit that I went!!

Bruce Springsteen...saw him THREE times....Just dont get it. Friends tried to convert me, didnt work...his voice irrates the crap out of me.

Same with the 80s and 90s Grateful Dead. I love their late 60s-early 70s stuff, but that later edition, argh...I never heard such noodling....I would always be praying Jerry (god love him) would find the note he was looking for and bend something. It NEVER happened.

First "gig" was at the Leeds Ideal Home Exhibition in 1960-something headlined by the one and only Ronnie Hilton - I was dragged there by my parents though

Saw Leo Sayer in the late 70's during his clown period which is a bit lame although he was pretty good to be honest

Also went to see Steeleye Span in late 70's (Gaudete was just a hit) when Traffic were on in the same town on the same night. Sat in the same row as my English teacher which was embarrasing

Oh man, that has to be "THE BLOODHOUND GANG" in Amsterdam Paradiso.
That was back in 1997 and that Tour was called: One fierce beer run.

Actually I had quite a lot of fun. Everybody knows "Fire Water Burn" and I even got on stage during that number. But half of the audience got on stage during that song: complete mayhem!!

It was cool, but I'm not very proud of it I guess....

My wife reckons when Bruce Springsteen sings he looks like he is doing a crap????

I took my sister to see Justin Timberlake a couple of years ago, it was an adults only "show after the show" gig, relatively small venue (Glasgow Barrowlands) and it started about 2am. My sister was about 15 at the time and my mum wouldn't let her go to the gig. I didn't know this and when my sister phoned to see if I could get a couple of tickets I was only too happy to use some contacts to secure a couple of briefs.

When my mum found out she went mental and as a punishment she made me escort my sister to the gig. I actually thought he was quite good - dare I say it, like a young Mick Jagger. He came on stage drinking from a can of beer and throwing in the occasional swear word. I'm sure he wouldn't get away with that sort of thing normally.

I think I've bust a button on my trousers....

What a great thread - now we can all get these little dirty secrets off our chests and start LIVING again!!

I went to a Styx concert in the early 80's, though I hated the band. My excuse: I had the hots for some girl I was living in a sort of commune with at the time. We did spend one night together - but not after this particular concert.

There - I feel much better already. Like som weight has been lifted off my shoulders. ;-)

Also Whitney for me.

It was in the early nineties, and some local rich guy paid for her to come and play in the town where I was living at that time. The city being faily small and not used to this kind of concerts, so the whole city practically went there, me included. It was boring as hell. I think my only excuse is that I wasn't more than 12-13 years old

Well, I was just trying to advance my musical ability. Noticing some of the instruments played by the other members of the band, I just asked Andrea if I could have a fiddle...

AdrainL confession time my boy otherwise I'll spill the beans...... 'cause I wanna beeeeeeeeeeeee"........

Ok here goes

Took my 8 year old daughter to a Peter Andre gig. Even the security took the piss. Highlight was an acoustic version of the Eagles Hotel California!

Went with my bro to T'pau in the late eighties

Most embarrassing moment has to be at a James concert when a band called Radio Head were supporting and I thought they were a load of indie wank and went to the bar.

Some might say Chas n Dave are embarrassing but I love it!

I think if Mr Jimmy's reason was to perv at Andrea then that is a fine and upstanding reason and no apology is required!!

"Fiddling" with Andrea does not constitute improving one's musicianship. "Fiddling" with Andrea (especially if done in full view of others) does however constitute something that could earn you a 10 year stretch !! Be careful !!

worst i've ever been to :

MICK TAYLOR in Bilston (uk) a few years back. an truly utterly awful gig. bad attitude, bad band, bad setlist etc etc. left after 40 minutes and went to the pub. shit

worst line up :

i once took a girl i wanted to shag to a festival at Milton Keynes Bowl. the headliners were Bon Jovi, supported by Europe, Vixen and Skid Row. probably the gayest / lamest festival line up of all time. the saving grace being the 5 minute cameo from Steven Tyler & Joe Perry during BJs encore of Walk This Way.

to top off a miserable day, i didn't even get my leg over yawning smiley(

sometime in the late sixties, me and my little girlfriends bought tickets to see the Monkees. guess it doesn't really count though, because for some reason the Monkees DIDN'T SHOW UP! Man, I remember how crushed and disillusioned we were :-))

actually on second thought, i can't really say that i'm embarrassed about having bought tickets to see the Monkees back then -- they weren't that bad really, and some of their music sounds pretty great nowadays :-)
