That's how I feel about the Dead

The Doors in December 1968 was the worst concert I ever been to. It totally turned me off to the band from that point on. (6 songs with absolutely no emotion from Jim and 30 minutes of poetery)
also
The Osmond Brothers...well I was actually asked to work stage security pulling fainted girls from the audience to medics backstage.

I'm not sure I even understand the question. I've been to a few concerts that were disappointing, but I go to see people I like. I'm not embarrassed about anything that I like.

My freshman year of college back in 73-74 was at Appalachian State, in Boone, NC (hey, how about those Mountaineers over Michigan! Yahoo!). We had some very good concerts that year, especially for such a small university way up in the mountains: Roy Buchanan, Mountain, Edgar Winter Group, James Gang, Crosby & Nash, etc.

Our ASU Student Concert Committee (or whatever the heck it was called) informed the student body that "we have a BUNCH of money, just name the band, and we might just be able to get 'em......who do you want to see? Let's have a contest," etc.

My friends and I knew, of course, that we couldn't get the Stones for about a million reasons, but we were writing names of bands like The Who, Santana, J. Geils Band, Grateful Dead, etc.

The OVERWHELMING favorite in the contest, mostly voted in by 18 year old freshman girls who never drank a beer and always ran home to mama every weekend?

Seals and Crofts.

(Just let that sink in for a moment..........a chance to get some really great bands, but we got........Seals and Crofts).

I went to the show, and it actually was bearable (hey, not a lot to do in Boone, NC on a lot of nights!).....but........Seals and Crofts? I mean, really....

Wow!, must have had a large Bahai Faith Population, that's almost as bad as Batdorff & Rodney or Cicilio & Coppono!

Oh god, where do I start.

A girlfriend dragged me to see the Gypsy Kings. Drank so much beer she had to drive home. Then another girlfriend, who thought she was doing me a favour because Gwyn(?) used to come into my friends record store in Anaheim to buy ska records, took me to see No Doubt. Jeez, over hyped no talents.

This reminds me why I'm single and go to Stones shows alone!

Yep! I had already left ASU to follow what I thought was going to be fame and fortune as a rock and roll drummer.

Varsity Gym for those concerts. Rally Weekend in the Spring was really cool.

Lionel Richie 1986. A friend and his girlfriend liked him and he had an extra pair of freebies so I took my significant other. Sheila E. opened and blew him off the stage.

Cheap Trick in '95 or '96. Horrible, left after the second song.
Sawyer Brown Band opened by BJ Thomas, but that one was a free music festival. The concert was saved by Charlie Daniels if you can beleive that.

Neil Young. I love his music. Espicailly the Crazy Horse material. But I saw him a few years ago at a show that was billed as Neil Young & Crazy Horse. But he had just released a new cd. Welcome to Greendale or something like that. A concept album dealing with his hatred of corporate america and Clear Channel specifically. I had good seats and was expecting him to run through a lot of Crazy Horse material. Instead he put on this dreadful performance that was almost like a play. He had actors and background settings as he ran through his entire new album which sucked. He finally did a couple of hits at the end. But me and many others left that sow shaking are heads. Saying WTF? That's why I will never go to another Neil Young show. Get over yourself Neil.

Worst show I had ever seen in my life. Have no problem with an artist playing an entire album live - if it's good. And for a story, you gotta have good songs first and the story second. Not force mediocre songs to fit the story. Even 5-6 new songs spread out with classic material, hits and obscure would have been great. The absolute worst thing about the whole thing is that he wasted his once every 5 years Crazy Horse tour on that garbage.

Some the other things here I disagree with - Cheap Trick, some of the best shows I have ever seen (though others have been underwhelming) and No Doubt at the Universal in 2004 was one of the best shows I have seen this decade.

Lollapalooza 2007:

Technically, I wasn't in the audience for her performance (we were taking a breather underneath a tree so we could get ourselves in a prime spot for IGGY POP), but I have to say that the biggest turd I have ever seen take the stage was this new-fangled sensation, "MIA."

Her music was absolute shit. It was too random and out of sorts to even be considered music, but rather, it was the autistic collection of random sounds. In fact, it was not music, so just call it poop. It was like the sound of what I can only describe as skin-stretching to its breaking point, and then finally, and horifically tearing apart in a bloody mess...right before your very eyes.

She was so bad that several times during the performance, we could only laugh as we heard her MC or one of her mixing artists say, "You know, this song usually gets a pretty good response from the crowd, so feel free to chime in."

She finally bit the dust when she said "scream if you want us to play more!"

It was laughable when no-one screamed back.

Ok....back to this paper I'm writing for english (I'm working my way through Exile, I'm on Torn and Frayed right now)

Later.

And you're saying that his voice irrates the crap out of you and still you went to THREE of his concerts. I don't get that either.
Did they put a gun to your head to force you to see another two concerts of Bruce?

Whatever dude...

I bet all his "hardcore fans" came away happy that he played all the new material and didn't just play all the warhorses again! But you can't please all of the people all of the time.

I think I've bust a button on my trousers....

Bronski Beat - Piss Off!!!

Ermm....well my wife dragged me to go and see David Essex about 15 years ago. Entertaining enough to some degree but musically not really my thing.

Most embarrassing one of my own choosing was probably Frankie Goes To Hollywood - went down to Dublin to see them in 1985. Only embarrassing in retrospect I suppose as I actually liked the album and thought the show wasnt bad.

Meatloaf in 1982 was maybe another contender, although in the big man's defence, he did do decent covers of both Chuck's "Promised Land" and...'Gimme Shelter'.....

Fortunately, some years ago I sold all of any children I've ever had off for medical experiments rather than have to take any of them to see the likes of fĂșcking Westlife
