Rumours concert 2007 in Erfurt, Germany
Posted by: RollingStonesFan ()
Date: November 11, 2006 14:27

This article (friday) says that the Stones management had asked the operating company from the Erfurt stadium [www.worldstadiums.com] for a gig in the 20.000 seat-"stadium".
As date is named june, 8th 2007, seven days before Herbert Groenemayer, who already booked the stadium.
The mayor of Erfurt said that he'd love to have the Stones in town but it will be difficult for the fact that some weeks later, Erfurt has the athletic-wolrdchampionships...

This news corresponds to other sources, who say that Karlsruhe (50 km to Stuttgart) also was asked for a gig in Wildparkstadion [www.worldstadiums.com]

Well, good news for me.

Thanks for sharing. Yes, that's good news indeed and a clear hint that Europe 2007 will happen.

I found this article from today and from the same newspaper.
It says that the mayor is very interested in this concert because a relativeley unknown city like Erfurt (Eastern Germany) only gets one time a chance like this. The problem is that they are worried about the lawn on the field, which they need one month later for the worldchampionships but also for the training in the weeks before...and they fear that football-regionalleague (it ends on June 2nd), Herbert Groenemayer (June 14th) AND Rolling Stones would be too much.

For me, the date for the Stones concert seems to be realistic, 6 days between Stones and Groenemayer will be enough to change stages.
Also, for me, this would be a great tactic for the Rolling Stones, who, IF they tour through Germany again next year, have to play in smaller places due to the not so perfect ticketsales this year...but it they go into smaller stadiums, they have to do this BEFORE other stars, in order to be the ones, who "opened the cage"...

Let's wait and see...

Wow, finally more shows in East Germany than usual?!. Erfurt would be a perfect companion for Dresden (ca. 220 km distance), but there is no rumour yet. I heard there are negotiations with Leipzig too, but I don't think there will be a show especially when Erfurt happens (very bad ticket sales for the then cancelled 2006 show).

30.000 capacity Ostseestadion in Rostock (some 400 km north from Erfurt or Dresden) would make sense too in my opinion; this is a totally untouched region as well (although pretty poor) and not far is a 400.000 Polish town.

A 20.000 seater? That´s really poor. Expect ticket prices
to be the same as the last time then.

"Well, isn´t it great, they play where they have never been
playing before!" - @#$%&, no! I don´t want them to end their
career in cities no one knows.

Perfect! People in the big cities complain about ticket prices, too many shows, too many famous songs, everything. Smaller cities will love them for what they are - The Rolling Stones. They tried this out in Horsens, Bergen, Wichita, Moncton, Missoula and so on, and I hope they will do the same in Europe 2007.

On the other hand, it doesn't look very good. It's like they are afraid not to sell well in big cities where they've been before: A'dam, Köln,...
But it's nice for those people over there

About capacity... Mosaic Stadium at Taylor Field in Regina, Canada has a capacity for seating football of 27,000 but the Stones sold out two shows there each capacity 40,000 i.e. total 80.000 people just a few weeks ago.

Steigerwaldstadion in Erfurt has a seated capacity of 19,500 people with the same wide open design as the stadium in Regina, which means they can have at least 40,000 people there, counting the extended floor/pitch. They are booking venues now...

Today is Nov 11. The carnival season has started. The Stones in Erfurt? The message is as foolish as the news that Blondie may could replace Ronnie as we read earlier this week.

Give me one serious reason why they could not play in any city like this one, which holds 200,000 people or so. If you live in Frankfurt or Berlin or Cologne or Leipzig and hate to see them performing in "another" city that is no reason. They played to 85,000 people in Horsens Denmark and no show in Copenhagen. This is their new policy. Still some big cities but also many new smaller places they have never ever visited, with people who really appreciate Satisfaction, JJF and every other song.

Of course they can play anywhere they want, and maybe they can sell out
that stadium. But really, they just can´t sell out the big ones with
those prices anymore. It´s their own fault.

So on to another greatest hits tour, because in your logic those
cities were never played before and therefore urgently need a 80%
warhorse show.

To be honest I hope they perform there, but today for me it is a question of believing. I can't believe in a show in Thuringia, because it's just a three hours car ride away from my home. The idea of a show in Erfurt is so sweet that I would not recognize it today.

Why not Erfurt? (It is 3 hours drive from me too, by the way.) This was the biggest town in today's East Germany in the Middle Ages by the way. Far bigger in those old times than Berlin (!), Leipzig or Dresden. Still 200.000 today, comparable to Regina!

But what counts today is sold out stadiums with high ticket prices. People, the world does not consist only of 500.000+ or 1.000.000+ towns where the band played 3-15 times already. Just look at the poor recent ticket sales in some metropoles (Berlin, Leipzig, Vienna, Munich, LA 11/06 and many more)! Around Erfurt live a lot of people, there are other ca. 100.000 population cities (Gera, Jena, Gotha and maybe Mühlhausen ;-) nearby.

And it is no problem indeed to sell 20.000 tix or even 40.000 in "virgin" regions with high population. Mr Cohl knows this, of course. From this point of view Erfurt 07 makes MUCH more sense than Berlin, Munich or Leipzig again for instance. I totally agree with bv in this case. - The same for Dresden or Rostock or Bremen or Karlsruhe by the way.

It's a perfect city for the tour. Many out of the way cities that have never seen the band. Tickets sell and they get to see the Stones, why not.

Exactly.

I like to see a "new" town. Not always this big cities. It will be a great event day in a town like Erfurt. Not - nobody heard that the Stones are in town - like in Berlin this year and in New York last year.

All this oh only in London, Amsterdam, Paris will be fantastic shows.. "gaat mir uf dä Sack"... LOL.... is so boring.

I will travel to a place like Erfurt or others like that.

herzlich willkommen in einer neuen Stones-Stadt, dein Bett hier in Sachsen wird schon reserviert.

See you there! Hope it will come true. I am from Dresden and I love Erfurt much more than Berlin, although Berlin is a bit closer. Berlin is too big and there are too many asses IMO.

But if Erfurt shall be on June 8, couldn't be Dresden on June 6? That would be fantastic because it is the 17th anniversary of my first show (Westberlin 1990) which I attended at age 13.

17th anniversary in my home town?! Maybe the 2007 leg make some dreams come true; I hope so.

I would love them playing in places they have never played before. It's a good idea because the people in these "new" areas would appreciate the Stones playing in their city as what it is - a once in a lifetime concert. I could name at least 20 or 30 cities in Germany which would be a perfect location for a Stones show. And don't forget in Germany there are no areas in the middle of nowhere. Wherever they decide to play there will always be enough major cities and people living close enough to the venue. So come to Braunschweig instead of Hanover this time - and make another dream come true !

Yeah, right Ronnie!

But Braunschweig; I don't know. My suggestions today are:

- Karlsruhe or Frankfurt
- Bremen and Rostock OR (!) Hamburg (small stadiums)
- Ruhr area (one small stadium)
- Erfurt (small stadium)
- Dresden (festival ground)

All five or six shows would be well selling I think. Let's see what happens pretty soon!

Re: Rumours concert 2007 in Erfurt, Germany

There will be no other concert goers than the last time.
You really think that they will sell more tickets by playing small cities?

The people from or around Erfurt had tickets for Leipzig or Berlin I guess.
So if the stones come to Erfurt the ones from there will go - the question is
if all the others will go to Erfurt who attended the Berlin show. No!

So the point is what they will charge. If they take the same prices they will
not sell out again. No matter where they play.

Totally correct. They hope for the people in the country side being stupid to pay the extraordinary ticket prices for an ordinary warhorse show.

BTW. Also Hintertupfingen has been asked by the Stones management to play a gig in 2007.

Ok. Too Tough (and others?) don't want to have the Stones in Germany. That's clear now. It's getting boring . all the time the same arguments... ahhhhhhh

Or no tour at all. Maybe?

But not for me. I will be there. So I think we will never meet.

I had great times. Even in not fully packed stadiums in Germany this summer. I will never forget Stuttgart. That's what this is worth for.
