"Under the Radar": Opinions?

I'm glad that I got this ABB track, along with "We Don't Wanna Go Home". These were left off of the US release of ABB. "Under the Radar" is a classic raveup, with just the core band and (I think) Blondie providing backup vox. I love it. IMO, it would've been the perfect closing song to ABB, but alas, it wasn't.

If nothing else, these two songs would've been nice as a CD single postscript.

My 2nd favorite song on ABB next to Rough Justice. Love it. It has a certain tension to it.

The best Rolling Stones song of the last 10 years - at least, IMO

Good song, although the bridge lets it down a bit

Best song of theirs since Baby Break It Down.
(that was not sarcasm - I love both songs)

I'd have like both this AND "Wanna Go Home" to have made the final cut. They both reminded me of underrated past classics - this one kind of had a "Child Of The Moon" swagger to it, while 'Home' was just a fun mindless rocker in the "Where the Boys Go" style. They both would have made it a bigger and better bang.

Yeah, really like it-and agree that it would have been good on ABB. It would also work live.

GREAT SONG! Really, one of their best recent ones and puts Don't Stop to shame. This is the way we like our stones, raunchy, rocking, and full of attitude. Some one posted earlier it is very similar to Child of the Moon, that riff is fantastic. Jagger is full on with his classic vocal style.

i get why We Don't Wanna Go Home was left off the album, but Radar for sure should have been on it.
the guitars are so beautiful i feel like singing ~ the lyrics are hilarious: "she tried to date me" tongue sticking out smiley ~
and that nasty-spittin Mick laugh is a brilliant brilliant touch :E
plus which it sounds like a full-fledged Glimmer Twin collaboration

thanks & praises & hail hail Rolling Stones

I like these two songs.......... but this one is a child of the moon sequale (RS copying themselves)

The song has got a nice groove and a strong riff, but it is unfinished. It starts of impressively but it does not develop. That is probably why it became nothing but a bonustrack.

Should have been the first single!

Thats basically what I was trying to get at. The bridge doesnt really go anywhere. Had they worked on that a bit more, it would have been one of the standout songs on the album.

They sound like they're having a lot of fun on this song, though. Mick's vocal is superb.

I saw your boyfriend
He's rich and smarmy
He said he'll kill me...
Yeah, but where's his army?

This one certainly deserves to be better known: yes, it should have been on ABB and I would love to hear it tried live. Great to hear Mick's sarcastic voice back in good form and let loose on some fun lyrics - he sounds as if he's enjoying himself, and so does the band.

Love it. Seems it got the same treatment as Highwire. Maybe it's a special treat for the hard core fans.

Why is this one and "We Don't Wanna Go Home" not on the 2009 reissue of ABB?

I think that in these two quotes is expressed something I find quite general 'problem' with the recent (a decade or two) Stones songs. There are some nice ideas present, but they don't have the nerves or energy to really work those out. For that reason I think it would be interesting to hear them doing a TATTOO YOU-like album, and continue from already existing ideas and sketches and put all the creative energy finishing them properly. But like Ronnie once said that it is much easier for them to make songs from new ideas than trying rework the older ones. I can see the point what he makes there.

i donĀ“t think it is overrated on this board! i consider it a typical strong stones rocker with a great riff and funny lyrics!

Remake of Child Of The Moon. Uninspired, imo.

I agree that Under The Radar is overrated on this board. I dislike the way Jagger stretches the words, i.e "I saw your Booooooyfriend etc.
It's pretty horrible really. I think the song would've worked better had it been released as a fast rock tune instead.

I think this is one of the best later day stones songs. They could have saved it by putting it on the b-side of Rain Fall Down instead of some remixes. But to bury it as a bonus track on some dvd is just an insult to this song.

I don't think it's a copy of Child Of The Moon. I has it's own character, and a great one IMO.

Well, more people are going to buy the expanded version of the album than buy a CD single.
